An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Turning Ultra‐Low Coercivity and Ultra‐High Temperature Stability Within 897 K via Continuous Crystal Ordering Fluctuations

open access: yesAdvanced Science
High‐performance soft magnetic materials are important for energy conservation and emission reduction. One challenge is achieving a combination of reliable temperature stability, high resistivity, high Curie temperature, and high saturation magnetization

Storage in ultra-low-temperature decreases the levels of IgM anticardiolipin antibody in serum samples from tuberculosis patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Respiratory Disease, 2014
The evaluation of novel tuberculosis (TB) biomarkers relies on analysis of previously stored sample sets. We aimed to determine the effect of storage temperature on serum IgM anticardiolipin antibody levels in samples from TB patients.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Ultra-Large Room-Temperature Compressive Plasticity of a Nanocrystalline Metal

open access: yes, 2007
We report ultra-large room-temperature plasticity of nanocrystalline Ni subjected to uniaxial compression. Up to 200% true plastic strain is achieved with a steady flow stress of ∼2 GPa at strain rates ranging from 10-3 to 10-1 s-1.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Low-temperature magnetic properties of magnetite

open access: yes, 2000
Although several studies have recommended removal of secondary components of magnetic remanence by zero-field cycling from room temperature to a temperature much lower than the low temperature transition for magnetite (about 120 K), the method has not ...

Low Temperature Plasma Nitriding of Low Alloy Steel for the Enhancement of Hardness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The present concerns surface modification of low alloy CrMoV steel by following the route of plasma nitriding for the improvement of hardness. Plasma nitriding was performed at a low temperature of 450 oC.

High-pressure neutron diffraction at ultra-low temperature

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
Neutron diffraction is a powerful tool in the study of quantum materials and associated emergent phenomena as it allows for direct detection of magnetic structure even at ultra-low temperatures.
