Observations that link infrared cirrus and ultraviolet extinction

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1991
Results are presented of UV extinction measurements of 17 stars in the open cluster IC 4665 and of four stars in the open cluster NGC 1647, showing that the UV extinctions of the two clusters stars have different properties. Whereas the stars in NGC 1647 cluster are typical of general interstellar space, the stars in IC 4665 have a small 'linear' term ...

Coaxial Melt Electrowriting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Coaxial melt electrowriting is established to produce dual‐property microfibers with diameters spanning 1.6–29.2 µm. Stable coaxial laminar flow is preserved under electrohydrodynamic thinning, enabling controlled binary and gradient material switching within individual continuous fibers.

Age and Extinction of the Ultraviolet Emitting Regions in M82

open access: yes, 2009
The M82 galaxy has been the subject of several studies basically because it is relatively close to to the Milky Way and it displays a strong star formation activity. Using multi-band images of M82 we have determined the age and extinction of the stellar population located in regions with strong UV emission, these region are in the nucleus and the disk ...

Temperature Correction in a Single Luminophore Pressure‐Sensitive Paint Using a Dual‐Emitting Gold Acridine Complex

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
The use of pressure‐sensitive luminescent molecules to quantify surface pressure in wind tunnel testing has revolutionized experimental aerodynamics. This work develops a dual‐emitting gold acridine complex for the simultaneous sensing of pressure and temperature independently of each other.

Strong Coupling in all‐Polymer Planar Microcavities

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Strong Coupling has been achieved in an all‐polymer microcavity with dielectric contrast Δn = 0.33 doped with TDBC. A Rabi splitting of 39 meV has been measured opening novel perspectives for polymer photonics. ABSTRACT In this work, strong coupling effect is observed in all‐polymer planar microcavities incorporating TDBC J‐aggregates dispersed into ...

Multimodal Imaging Reveals Rapid Catecholamine Uptake and Release by Neutrophils

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We show that immune cells (neutrophils) synthesize, uptake, and store catecholamine neurotransmitters such as dopamine or adrenaline. They also release them in response to specific stimuli (serotonin), which we directly visualize using fluorescent nanosensors. We further demonstrate that catecholamines affect neutrophil functions (NETosis) and platelet

A Pilot Method to Determine the High Mass End of the Stellar Initial Mass Function in Galaxies Using UVIT, Hα-MUSE Observations and Applied to NGC 628

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a pilot method to estimate the high-mass initial mass function (IMF) across the arm, interarm, and spur regions in galaxies and apply it to NGC 628.

Smart Nanotechnologies for Multimodal Neuromodulation and Brain Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Recent advances in smart nanotechnologies are expanding the toolbox for brain interfacing, from wireless neuromodulation and high‐resolution sensing to targeted delivery within the central nervous system. By combining responsive nanomaterials with bioinspired design, these platforms enable multimodal interactions with neurons and glia, while also ...

Flexoelectricity in Photoconversion: Fundamentals, Materials, and Outlooks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mechanical bending of a flexible cantilever induces a strain gradient in the photoactive material. The resulting flexoelectric field couples with photovoltaic and photoconductive effects, modulating charge generation, separation, and collection. A comparative analysis of oxide perovskites, halide perovskites, and two‐dimensional materials is presented,
