Norisoprenoids fromUlvalactuca

Five norisoprenoids were isolated from the green marine alga Ulva lactuca. Two new compounds were assigned to (3R,5R,6R,7E)3,5,6-trihydroxy-7-megastigmen-9-one (1) and (3S,5R,6S,7E)3,5,6-trihydroxy-7-megastigmen-9-one (2). The structures and absolute configurations of the five compounds were determined by analyses of NMR, MS and circular dichroism (CD).

Isolation of a Polysaccharide with Antiviral Effect from Ulva Lactuca

A polysaccharide from the green marine algae Ulva lactuca has been isolated. The substance has been investigated after acid hydrolysis by thin-layer and gas chromatography. The following carbohydrate components have been found: arabinose-xylose-rhamnose-galactose-mannose-glucose in ratio 1:1:9:5:2.5:16 respectively.

The Ionic Relations of Ulva lactuca

Summary The ionic relations of the marine green alga, Ulva lactuca (L.) Grev. have been studied in seawater ([K+]o, 10.1 mol m-3; [Na+]o, 468 mol m-3; [CI-]o, 547 mol m-3). The membrane potential (Δψi,o) was -39 ∓ 1.1mV in the light and -25∓1.9mV in the dark (∓95% confidence limits), based on micro-electrode measurements.
