A new Eocene fossil of the genus Phycopeltis (Ulvophyceae, Chlorophyta)

The Ulvophyceae K. R. Mattox & K. D. Stewart is one of the main classes of green algae, comprising about 1700 species according to AlgaeBase (Guiry 2012, Guiry & Guiry 2017). Most of this diversity is found in marine coastal waters, while a smaller number of species occurs in brackish, freshwater, and terrestrial habitats.

Ultrastructure and Taxonomy of Sporocladopsis novae-zelandiae (Ulvophyceae, Chlorophyta)

The ultrastructure of vegetative and reproductive cells in Sporocladopsis novae-zelandiae has been studied for the first time to determine the precise taxonomic position of this genus. Vegetative cells contained one parietal chloroplast with 5-8 ulvophycean-type pyrenoids and transverse cell walls with plasmodesmata.

SUMMARY The purpose of this study was to construct a cosmid library from chromosomal DNA of a marine macroalga, Bryopsis maxima Okamura ex Segawa (Bryopsidales, Ulvophyceae), in a rapid, simple and inexpensive manner. In the DNA purification, polysaccharides were removed by covalently binding them to resin particles containing free boric acid groups.
