Minor physical anomalies in patients with schizophrenia, unaffected first-degree relatives, and healthy controls: a meta-analysis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
BackgroundMinor physical anomalies (MPAs) have been found to be more prevalent in schizophrenia than control participants in numerous studies and may index a potential endophenotype for schizophrenia.AimTo quantitatively define the magnitude of the ...

Aberrant cognition in newly diagnosed patients with bipolar disorder and their unaffected relatives [PDF]

open access: yesPsychological Medicine, 2019
AbstractBackgroundPatients with bipolar disorder (BD) experience persistent impairments in both affective and non-affective cognitive function, which is associated with a worse course of illness and poor functional outcomes. Nevertheless, the temporal progression of cognitive dysfunction in BD remains unclear and the identification of objective ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Neurocognition in Unaffected First-Degree Relatives of Patients With Bipolar Disorder Type I From India

open access: yesSAGE Open, 2012
The study aims to evaluate the neuropsychological functions of unaffected first-degree relatives of patients with bipolar disorder Type I (BD-I) in comparison with healthy controls. The method was a cross-sectional assessment of 20 first-degree relatives

Association of the nicotinic receptor α7 subunit gene (CHRNA7) with schizophrenia and visual backward masking

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2013
The nicotinic system is involved in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. However, very little is known about its genetic basis and how it relates to clinical symptoms and potentially pharmacological intervention.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Altered immune function in unaffected first-degree biological relatives of schizophrenia patients

open access: yesPsychiatry Research, 2012
Inflammatory and immune processes have been implicated in the etiopathology of schizophrenia. We demonstrate the existence of immune function alteration, assessed by serum cytokine's levels, not only in schizophrenia patients but also in their unaffected first-degree relatives.

Prolongation of Brainstem Auditory-Evoked Responses in Autistic Probands and Their Unaffected Relatives [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of General Psychiatry, 2000
Brain function, as indexed by brain electrical activity, is heritable in humans, and it may be impaired in autism. Autism also has strong genetic determinants, and like all major psychiatric disorders, its complex clinical phenotype renders genetic studies difficult.
