Negative Chemotaxis of Urease‐Functionalized Polymeric Microcapsules

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Urease‐functionalized PLGA microcapsules exhibit negative chemotaxis in urea gradients, migrating from high to low substrate concentrations. Increasing gradients enhance chemotaxis until a plateau, while increasing average substrate concentration in a fixed gradient reverses chemotactic behavior.

Schiff bases and their metal complexes as urease inhibitors – A brief review

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Research, 2018
Schiff bases, an aldehyde- or ketone-like compounds in which the carbonyl group is replaced by an imine or azomethine, are some of the most widely used organic compounds. Indeed, they are widely used for industrial purposes and also exhibit a broad range

A Cytoplasmic pH Sensor Redefines Gating in Bacterial Urea Channels and Acid Resistance

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Bacterial survival in acidic environments requires pH‐gated urea channels. Utilizing complementary approaches, we identify a conserved cytoplasmic glutamic acid residue as a pH sensor in UreI channels. Whereas Gram‐positive bacteria rely solely on this sensor, Gram‐negative bacteria employ a dual‐sensor mechanism with periplasmic residues, revealing a ...

Herbivore and mesocarnivore carcasses trigger divergent short‐term changes in soil properties

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Scavengers reshape nutrient cycles in soils under carrion. Compared to herbivore carcasses, smaller but longer‐lasting carnivore remains boost nutrient levels and microbial activity in dry soils. Abstract Animal corpses act as pulses of organic matter (OM) and serve a key zoogeochemical role by providing localized nutrient inputs to soils and thereby ...
