Preparation of uridine diphosphogalactose and uridine diphosphate

Analytical Biochemistry, 1964
Abstract A procedure for the production of UDP-Gal and UDP on a preparative scale has been elaborated using a bacterial mutant which accumulates UDP-Gal in the presence of galactose. This method provides several possibilities for labeling these compounds with radioactive isotopes.

Phosphorylation of uridine and cytidine by uridine–cytidine kinase

Journal of Biotechnology, 2014
Uridine 5'-monophosphate (5'-UMP) and cytidine 5'-monophosphate (5'-CMP) were biosynthesized by recombinant uridine-cytidine kinase (UCK) and acetate kinase (ACK). The ack and uck genes from Escherichia coli K12 and the uck1, uck2 and ack genes from Lactobacillus bulgaricus ATCC 11842 were cloned and inserted into the plasmid pET-28a.

Salvage of uridine in the mouse

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1985
Salvage of circulating nucleosides provides an alternative to de novo synthesis of nucleotides and may modify response to antimetabolites. We have investigated treatment with uridine phosphorylase as a means of inhibiting salvage of uridine in vivo. Examination of the metabolism of intravenous [3H] uridine in mice revealed that 30-40% was salvaged by ...

Effects of uridine on kindling

Epilepsy & Behavior, 2008
The anticonvulsant effect of the nucleoside uridine has been studied for several decades with controversial results. One of its attractive properties is that as a natural endogenous molecule, it lacks the serious side effects of common antiepileptic drugs used today. In the current study, we examined the potential antiepileptogenic effect of uridine in

Uridine phosphorylase and uridine kinase activities of the Ehrlich ascites carcinoma

Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1969
Uridine phosphorylase and uridine kinase in cell-free extracts of the Ehrlich ascites carcinoma were assayed by a radioactive-tracer technique. Under the assay conditions uridine phosphorylase had an optimum pH of 8.0 and an apparent Km value for uridine of 2.5 × 10−3 M.
