The Urokinase Receptor and Cell Migration

Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis, 1996
The receptor (u-PAR) for urokinase plasminogen activator (u-PA) is a three-domain protein, GPI-anchored to the cell surface, which focuses the enzymatic activity of u-PA, and allows the cell surface activation of plasminogen. Regulation of the activity of u-PA is also mediated by u-PAR. In fact, while active u-PA is not internalized or degraded, rather

Urokinase-Urokinase Receptor Interaction: Non-Mitogenic Signal Transduction in Human Epidermal Cells

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1993
We studied non-mitogenic signal transduction in a human cell line of epidermal origin which is induced to chemotaxis following stimulation with human urokinase-type plasminogen activator (u-PA) or with the amino-terminal fragment (ATF) of u-PA A chain, which specifically interacts with the cellular receptor.

Structure and Function of the Urokinase Receptor

Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1999
SummaryThe binding of the urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) to its receptor (uPAR) regulates cell adhesion, surface proteolysis, chemotaxis and cell extravasation in a number of experimental systems. Recent evidences have suggested that uPAR can by itself mediate chemotaxis of human monocytes and cause profound changes in cytoskeletal organization ...

Soluble urokinase receptor and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis

Current Opinion in Nephrology and Hypertension, 2012
We discuss recent work on the pathogenetic mechanism of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and its relationship to soluble urokinase receptor (suPAR).Primary FSGS can affect both children and adults. The disease can recur after kidney transplantation suggesting the involvement of a causative circulating factor.

Urokinase/urokinase receptor system: internalization/degradation of urokinase-serpin complexes: mechanism and regulation.

Biological chemistry Hoppe-Seyler, 1995
The urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) is secreted as a single-chain inactive zymogen (pro-uPA). Upon its secretion, pro-uPA binds to its glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored specific cell receptor (uPAR). The activation of pro-uPA to the active two-chain uPA is accelerated with uPAR-bound pro-uPA and is achieved by plasmin and proteases of ...

Urokinase and its Receptor: Markers of Malignancy?

1994
For many years it has been known that abnormal coagulation and fibrinolytic activity existed in the environs of malignant tumours. Whether these activities affected the invasiveness and metastatic activity of tumours has been in question for some time.
