The exopolysaccharide produced by the bacterium Alteromonas sp. strain 1644 originating from deep sea hydrothermal vents was shown to contain a novel glucuronic acid derivatives: 3-O-[(R)-1-carboxyethyl]-D-glucuronic acid. The structure of this compound was established on the basis of mass spectrometric data, methylation analysis, preparation of ...

A new strategy was applied to elucidate the structure of a polysaccharide from abalone gonad (AGSP). It was hydrolyzed by 0.05 M, 0.2 M, 0.5 M, and 2.0 M TFA at 100 °C for 1 h, sequentially. Every hydrolysate was ultrafiltrated (3000 Da) to collect oligo- and monosaccharides, and the final retentate was further hydrolyzed with 2.0 M TFA at 110 °C and ...

The primary structures of the O-glycosidically linked oligosaccharides isolated from glycoproteins GP I and GP II of Fusarium sp. M7-1 were established. The oligosaccharides released by alkaline borohydride treatment from the glycoproteins were purified by Bio-Gel P-4 and HPLC.

Electron impact mass spectra of a series of aldobiouronic and pseudoaldobiouronic acid per-O-methyl derivatives and of the corresponding 4,5-unsaturated analogues, found normally among the products of methylation of uronic acid containing disaccharides as a result of methylation accompanying beta-elimination, have been studied.

ABSTRACT Several L-iduronic acid derivatives were prepared by chemical synthesis including the reducing sugar, the α– and s-methyl glycosides and L-iduronolactone. The s-methyl glycoside, as well as two isomeric orthoesters, were the unexpected products of glycosylation of methyl (2,3,4-tri-O-acetyl-α-L-idopyranosyl bromide) uronate.

Two O-glycosidically linked acidic polysaccharides, AP I and AP II, were released, respectively, from glycoproteins GP I and GP II of Fusarium sp. M7-1 by alkaline borohydride treatment and purified by gel filtration chromatography. They were found to be apparently homogeneous on gel filtration chromatography and analytical ultracentrifugation.
