The yersiniabactin-associated ATP binding cassette proteins YbtP and YbtQ enhance Escherichia coli fitness during high-titer cystitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Yersinia high-pathogenicity island (HPI) is common to multiple virulence strategies used by Escherichia coli strains associated with urinary tract infection (UTI).

Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) strains may carry virulence properties of diarrhoeagenic E-coli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
To analyze whether Escherichia coli strains that cause urinary tract infections (UPEC) share virulence characteristics with the diarrheagenic E. coli (DEC) pathotypes and to recognize their genetic diversity, 225 UPEC strains were examined for the ...

Virulence Factors of Uropathogenic Escherichia coli

open access: yes, 2023
Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) strains are those that cause infections in the urinary tract. They acquired virulence factors which enable them to survive in the urinary tract and elicit pathogenicity. The virulence factors are classified into two categories: (i) bacterial cell surface virulence factors and (ii) bacteria secreted virulence ...

Antibiogram and characterization of resistance markers among Escherichia coli Isolates from urinary tract infections

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2013
Introduction: Urinary tract infection is the most frequently diagnosed kidney and urologic disease, and Escherichia coli is by far its most common etiological agent. Uropathogenic E. coli are responsible for approximately 90% of urinary tract infections

Characterization of extended-spectrum β-lactamases produced by Escherichia coli isolated from hospitalized and nonhospitalized patients : emergence of CTX-M-15-producing strains causing urinary tract infections [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli isolates were obtained from hospitalised and non-hospitalised patients in Belgium between August 2006 and November 2007.

The effect of consumption of cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) on Escherichia coli adherence to feline uroepithelial cells in a blind randomised cross-over trial in cats

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research
Escherichia coli is the most common uropathogen in humans, dogs and cats. Dietary consumption of cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) is known to be associated with a reduction in uropathogenic E.

Enzymatically Active and Inactive Phosphodiesterases and Diguanylate Cyclases Are Involved in Regulation of Motility or Sessility in Escherichia coli CFT073

open access: yesmBio, 2012
Intracellular concentration of cyclic diguanylate monophosphate (c-di-GMP), a second messenger molecule, is regulated in bacteria by diguanylate cyclases (DGCs) (synthesizing c-di-GMP) and phosphodiesterases (PDEs) (degrading c-di-GMP).

[Hemagglutination patterns of uropathogenic Escherichia coli].

open access: yesRevista Argentina de microbiologia, 1995
An hemagglutination (HA) type system has been applied to demonstrate mannose sensitive (MS) and mannose resistant (MR) hemagglutination produced by Escherichia coli isolated from urinary tract infections. Hemagglutination types were obtained by the agglutination of different species of red cells -human, bovine, chicken and guinea pig- suspended in ...

Uropathogenic Escherichia coli--a preliminary study.

open access: yesIndian journal of pathology & microbiology, 2004
Urinary isolates of Escherichia coli were studied for presence of haemolysin, adhesins, serum resistance and O serotype prevalence. Of the 144 isolates studied, 72 exhibited hemolysin, 7 were resistant to bactericidal effect of serum and 50 strains showed Mannose resistant Haemagglutination (MRHA).
