The composition of the urine in mammals is determined by the interaction of filtration pressures and concentration gradients and by a hormonally controlled enzyme transport system in the kidneys. The urine collected in the bladder is usually hypertonic and differs substantially from blood plasma in its organic and inorganic constituents.
