Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Examining Violent Police-Citizen Encounters in South Africa: A Focus on Suspect and Police Behaviour [PDF]

open access: yesE-Journal of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences
Numerous grievances have been lodged against police officers who abused their mandate to use force, which is a matter that has raised serious concern not only in policing circles but in the media as well.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Features of the Political and Legal Justification of the Use of Force in Internal Armed Conflicts in Countering Terrorism and Other Violent Manifestations of Extremism

open access: yesУправленческое консультирование, 2018
In any specific case of the use of armed violence, the question of its legitimation arises, that is, the need to justify the validity of an act  of use of force in the language of the law.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Legal Aspects of the use of Force and Reasonableness Standard

open access: yesJournal of Danubian Studies and Research, 2022
In the social and political environment, regardless of jurisdiction, the use of force and the intervention of law enforcement agencies, especially of the police force, is current issue, and the topic of adequate intervention - a topic of debate.
