Nomenclature and typification of sectional names in Carex (Cyperaceae)

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 74, Issue 6, Page 1543-1568, December 2025.
Abstract This paper presents an updated survey of all the published names at the section rank in Carex and its formerly accepted satellite genera. We included related names at other ranks when relevant. We address validity, legitimacy, priority, typification, and – if relevant – synonymy.

High‐Resolution Visualization of the Human Semicircular Canals Using Optical Coherence Tomography

open access: yesInternational Journal of Imaging Systems and Technology, Volume 35, Issue 6, November 2025.
ABSTRACT The semicircular canals are essential sensors of the vestibular organ. Current clinical in vivo imaging techniques lack the resolution needed to visualize critical vestibular microstructures, such as the membranous labyrinth and crista ampullaris.

Atoh1 Directs Regeneration and Functional Recovery of the Mature Mouse Vestibular System

open access: yesCell Reports, 2019
Summary: Utricular hair cells (HCs) are mechanoreceptors required for vestibular function. After damage, regeneration of mammalian utricular HCs is limited and regenerated HCs appear immature.

Taxonomic revision of the tropical African group of Carex subsect. Elatae (sect. Spirostachyae, Cyperaceae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The tropical African monophyletic group of Carex subsect. Elatae (sect. Spirostachyae) is distributed in continental tropical Africa, Madagascar, the Mascarene archipelago, and Bioko Island (32 km off the coast of West Africa, in the Gulf of Guinea ...

Mechanotransduction and hyperpolarization-activated currents contribute to spontaneous activity in mouse vestibular ganglion neurons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The hyperpolarization-activated, cyclic nucleotide–sensitive current, Ih, is present in vestibular hair cells and vestibular ganglion neurons, and is required for normal balance function.

Effect of Auditory Input on Sensory Organization and Fall Risk in Young Adults With Hearing Aids

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 135, Issue 11, Page 4382-4392, November 2025.
The aim of this study was to document postural control, sensory organization, and fall risk parameters of auditory input using computerized post urography in bilaterally hearing‐aided young adults. It was observed that auditory input had a positive contribution to postural control and fall risk in young adult hearing aid users.

Transcriptomic and epigenetic regulation of hair cell regeneration in the mouse utricle and its potentiation by Atoh1

open access: yeseLife, 2019
The mammalian cochlea loses its ability to regenerate new hair cells prior to the onset of hearing. In contrast, the adult vestibular system can produce new hair cells in response to damage, or by reprogramming of supporting cells with the hair cell ...

Semicircular canal morphology in Rodentia and its relationship to locomotion

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 247, Issue 5, Page 953-969, November 2025.
Here, we present a selection of rodent inner ear 3D models in the lateral view, with rodents from seven locomotor categories (left to right: fossorial, semifossorial, semiaquatic, terrestrial, ricochetal, arboreal, and gliding). Semicircular canal (SCC) morphology, including radius of curvature and shape, can be differentiated between specialized forms
