Plant physiological responses to UV-B radiation

open access: yesEmirates Journal of Food and Agriculture, 2012
During the last few decades, there has been considerable concern over the depletion of stratospheric ozone as a result of anthropogenic pollutants. This has resulted in a concomitant increase in solar ultraviolet-B radiation (280–320 nm). High levels of UV-B radiation are responsible for multiple biologically harmful effects in both plants and animals.

Investigating the Degradability of HDPE, LDPE, PE-BIO, and PE-OXO Films under UV-B Radiation

open access: yes, 2015
The changes in structural properties of high density polyethylene films (HDPE), low density polyethylene films (LDPE), biodegradable polyethylene (PE-BIO), and oxodegradable polyethylene (PE-OXO) films exposed to UV-B radiation were studied. The carbonyl

Quantifying dust and the ultraviolet radiation-density in the local universe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A sample of local galaxies for which far infrared and uv fluxes are available is used to estimate the characteristic dust extinction in galaxies and to test whether standard dust properties are plausible.

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

NITROGEN METABOLISM IN CUCUMBER COTYLEONS AND LEAVES EXPOSED TO THE DROUGHT STRESS AND EXCESSIVE UV-B RADIATION

open access: yesActa Scientiarum Polonorum: Hortorum Cultus, 2018
Plants absorb light energy for photosynthesis, and some amount of potentially damaging range of solar radiation, ultraviolet B. It accounts for less than 0.5% of the total solar radiation and the ambient current level of UV-B during the growth season ...

Characterization of quaternary ammonium compounds in Flourensia xerophytic communities and response to UV-B radiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
As part of ongoing studies aimed at characterizing molecular components involved in the ecophysiological adaptations of native xerophytic plants from central Argentina, we demonstrated the presence of compatible solutes in Flourensia campestris (FC) and ...

Enhancing Optoelectronic Properties in Phthalocyanine‐Based SURMOFs: Synthesis of ABAB Linkers by Avoiding Statistical Condensation with Tailored Building Blocks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel phthalocyanine (PC)‐based metal–organic framework (MOFs) is synthesized using ditopic PC linkers obtained through regioselective statistical condensation. The resulting MOF exhibits significant improvements in electronic absorption, thereby enhancing the material's performance in light harvesting and energy conversion.

Ultraviolet radiation changes plant color

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2020
Background Plant absorption of ultraviolet (UV) radiation can result in multiple deleterious effects to plant tissues. As a result, plants have evolved an array of strategies to protect themselves from UV radiation, particularly in the UV-B range (280 ...
