Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia [PDF]

open access: yesBest Practice & Research Clinical Haematology, 2022
Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) is primarily a complication of adenoviral vector-based covid-19 vaccination. In VITT, thrombocytopenia and thrombosis mediated by anti-platelet factor 4 (PF4) antibodies can be severe, often characterized by thrombosis at unusual sites such as the cerebral venous sinus and splanchnic circulation.

The aetiopathogenesis of vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Medicine, 2022
In the new science emanating from the COVID-19 pandemic, effective vaccine development has made a huge difference and saved countless lives. Vaccine roll-out led to the identification of rare cases of severe thrombotic and thrombocytopenic problems in some recipients.

Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia

open access: yesBlood, 2023
Abstract Within the first months of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, previously healthy recipients who developed severe thrombosis (often cerebral and/or splanchnic vasculature) and thrombocytopenia typically after adenoviral vector-based vaccination were identified. Similarities between this syndrome, vaccine-induced immune thrombotic

Perspectives on vaccine induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia

open access: yesJournal of Autoimmunity, 2021
As the novel SARS-CoV-2 continues to infect numerous individuals worldwide, one of the leading approaches in dealing with the global health crisis is vaccination against the COVID-19. Due to recent reports, vaccination with ChAdOx1 nCov-19 (developed by Oxford and AstraZeneca) may result in a vaccine-induced catastrophic thrombotic thrombocytopenia ...

Thrombocytopenia in COVID‑19 and vaccine‑induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Medicine, 2022
The highly heterogeneous symptomatology and unpredictable progress of COVID‑19 triggered unprecedented intensive biomedical research and a number of clinical research projects. Although the pathophysiology of the disease is being progressively clarified, its complexity remains vast.

A Case of COVID-19 Vaccine-Induced Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives, 2021
SARS-CoV-2, which originated in China in late 2019, has spread rapidly resulting in a global pandemic. Multiple vaccines have been developed to help prevent COVID-19 infection. Similar to other vaccines, common side effects including fever, fatigue, myalgias have occurred; however, episodes of more serious side effects have been noted.

PF4 Immunoassays in Vaccine-Induced Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2021
Laboratory Method to Detect VITT The rare vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia that may follow adenovirus-based Covid-19 vaccination resembles heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, but ra...

Lessons from vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia [PDF]

open access: yesNature Reviews Immunology, 2021
Adenoviral vector vaccines are effective against SARS-CoV-2 but have been associated with a rare side effect termed vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT). Here, we discuss our understanding of how vaccine-induced antibodies to platelet factor 4 (PF4) form immune complexes that activate platelets and trigger the thrombotic events ...

Vaccine-Induced Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia: A Case Report

open access: yesCureus, 2022
While the number of people who have been vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Portugal keeps rising, the risk of complications, although rare, keeps rising too. We report a case of vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) in a 30-year-old previously healthy male after vaccination with Ad26.COV2.S. The patient presented to

Recognizing Vaccine-Induced Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia

open access: yesCritical Care Medicine, 2021
OBJECTIVES: Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia is an unexpected consequence of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic era. We reviewed the pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of this rare side effect.
