Estimation of vacuum condition in vacuum circuit breakers

Proceedings ISDEIV. 18th International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum (Cat. No.98CH36073), 2002
In this paper a method is described for the estimation of the pressure inside vacuum circuit breakers which have been in operation for several years. The method is applicable for measurements in the field and uses only electrical measurement techniques.

Vacuum-state estimation of vacuum circuit breakers

SPIE Proceedings, 1994
The vacuum state of vacuum switching elements after production is checked normally by Penning- or Magnetron methods (combined electrical and magnetic field). Vacuum in the range of 10-1 - 10-4 Pa can be measured in this way. After assembly into circuit breakers however, these methods are not applicable.

The design of a 245kV vacuum circuit breaker

2016 27th International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum (ISDEIV), 2016
This paper covers work carried out on the electrical design for a 245kV Vacuum Circuit Breaker, specifically the design of the Vacuum Interrupters. The design is based on a “T” style transmission breaker, with two Vacuum Interrupters in series. The VCB uses a single permanent magnetic actuator with a toggle mechanism to provide the opening and closing ...

Interruption life of vacuum circuit breakers

Proceedings ISDEIV. 19th International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum (Cat. No.00CH37041), 2002
Over the past few years, there has been an increased interest in the number of short circuit interruptions a vacuum circuit breaker is capable of before excessive wear occurs on the contacts. Several methods have been proposed for recording or extrapolating the interruption life of vacuum circuit breaker contacts and these have resulted in many ...

Continuous vacuum monitoring in vacuum circuit breakers

2014 International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum (ISDEIV), 2014
Vacuum presence monitoring is a routine maintenance procedure carried out on vacuum circuit breakers, in which the CB is isolated from the electrical network. The presence of the vacuum is verified by applying a voltage across the open contacts of the vacuum interrupters VI's higher than the breakdown voltage of such contacts in air. This procedure has

Surge limiters for vacuum circuit breakers

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1988
Computer modeling was used to confirm the applications which require surge protection and to verify that surge limiters installed within the switchgear will provide this protection. The basic phenomena which cause vacuum-switchgear-related surges are reviewed, and the need for surge limiters is discussed.

Vacuum circuit breakers

1982
The vacuum circuit breaker has fascinated the switchgear designer for many years, primarily because of the great advantages of vacuum interrupters, which are: (a) They are entirely self contained, need no supplies of gases or liquids and emit no flame or gas.

Vacuum circuit breaker with asymmetrical actuator

IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exhibition, 2003
During the last decades vacuum replaced air, oil and almost SF/sub 6/ as switching medium in medium voltage circuit breakers. Beside the ecological and economic advantages vacuum is a proper solution for all switching applications. The range of applications last from switching of loads, such as transformers, motors to the switching of short circuit ...

Low Surge Vacuum Circuit Breakers

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1985
Low surge vacuum circuit breakers were developed which used a new electrode material cobalt-silver-selenium alloy. Their chopping current level was below 1.0 A and their high frequency current interruption ability was about 24 Aus. These levels were much lower than those of conventional electrode materials and did not change after load current ...
