Neuropsychiatric symptoms in patients with vascular dementia in mainland China

open access: yesTranslational Neuroscience, 2015
Background: Neuropsychiatric deficits can induce marked disability in patients with dementia and increase caregiver distress. Several studies have found that neuropsychiatric symptoms are common both in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and patients

The oscillatory response of the electroretinogram and neuronal adaptation

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract After more than 50 years, there still remains a challenge and an interest to know more as well as extend and deepen our understanding of the small rapid wavelets, the oscillatory potentials (OPs), of the electroretinogram (ERG) and the neuronal adaptation of the retina.

Computer simulation of platelet activation in a pulsatile ventricular assist device, through finite elements and a simplified geometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Ventricular assist devices are a technological solution for patients who suffer from cardiac insufficiency and await a transplant. In this work, a new design of an implantable pulsatile blood pump is analyzed in terms of blood damage, by means of finite ...

Multiplexed Transcriptomics for Screening Drug Combinations and Defining the Mechanism of Action of HCC Therapeutics at Single‐Cell Resolution

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
We designed a framework for screening clinical drug combinations with anti‐hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) activity, comprising four parts: primary screening, single‐cell screening, functional validation, and mechanism research. High‐throughput single‐cell screening identifies HY (HHT and YM155) as a potent anti‐HCC drug combination, validated by in ...

The Ventricular Assist Device team in the management of patients treated with long-term Mechanical Circulatory Support

open access: yesInfermieristica Journal
The number of people with heart failure is increasing rapidly worldwide. Despite preventive measures, optimal medical therapy, and cardiac transplantation, the overall morbidity and mortality of this syndrome remain high.

Dementia Risk in Type 1 and 2 Diabetes: A Nationwide Population‐Based Comparison

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims Diabetes is increasingly recognised as a major contributor to cognitive decline and dementia, but the risk varies by diabetes type and treatment intensity. We compared the risk of all‐cause dementia, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular dementia (VaD) among individuals with and without diabetes.

Opposing roles of DGAT‐mediated lipid droplet biogenesis in the regulation of ferroptosis sensitivity

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Ferroptosis is driven by unrestricted peroxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acyl (PUFA) chains in membrane phospholipids. In triple‐negative breast cancer cells, lipid droplets (LDs) sequester dietary PUFAs, limiting their incorporation into membrane phospholipids, preventing mitochondrial damage, and reducing lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis.

Why we should ever bother about wh-questions: on NPI-licensing properties of wh-questions in Swedish [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper is an attempt to solve the somewhat elusive polarity item licensing properties of wh-questions in Swedish. As has been observed by Klima (1964) for English, NPIs are gener¬ally not compatible with genuinely information seeking wh-questions ...

Unveiling Disparities and Missed Opportunities in Vitamin A Supplementation Among Children Under Five in Ethiopia

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, EarlyView.
Vitamin A supplementation (VAS) coverage in Ethiopia remains low (21%), with substantial inequities favoring wealthier, urban, and agrarian households, and missed opportunities to integrate VAS with health services like measles vaccination. Improving coverage, equity, and resilience requires expanding access, tailoring delivery approaches, and ...

Från koja till plan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This thesis concerns questions regarding how children’s perspectives on the outdoor environment can be approached in a planning context. Attention is drawn to the general understanding of childhood and the definition of outdoor environment as variables ...
