Integrating Spatial and Single‐Nucleus Transcriptomic Data to Assess the Effects of Intrauterine Hyperglycemia on Fetal Pancreatic Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Maternal pregestational diabetes mellitus (PGDM) induced metabolic stress in fetal mice pancreas, alongside significantly decreased insulin secretion, altered cell‐cell communication, and distinct changes in cellular niches. Abstract Maternal pregestational diabetes mellitus (PGDM) can lead to adverse fetal outcomes, including lasting impacts on ...

The role of mutation rate variation and genetic diversity in the architecture of human disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We have investigated the role that the mutation rate and the structure of genetic variation at a locus play in determining whether a gene is involved in disease. We predict that the mutation rate and its genetic diversity should be higher in genes associated with disease, unless all genes that could cause disease have already been identified ...

Unveiling new disease, pathway, and gene associations via multi-scale neural networks [PDF]

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 15(4), p.e0231059 (2020), 2019
Diseases involve complex processes and modifications to the cellular machinery. The gene expression profile of the affected cells contains characteristic patterns linked to a disease. Hence, biological knowledge pertaining to a disease can be derived from a patient cell's profile, improving our diagnosis ability, as well as our grasp of disease risks ...

The correlation between vaginal microecological dysbiosis-related diseases and preterm birth: A review

open access: yesMedicine in Microecology, 2021
In the 21st century, the incidence of preterm birth has continued to increase. According to statistics, preterm birth accounts for 5%–18% of all births worldwide, and 70%–75% of perinatal deaths are related to preterm birth.

Characteristics of vaginal delivery systems [PDF]

open access: yesArhiv za farmaciju, 2017
The lumen of vagina is the usual route for application of vaginal preparations with antimicrobial drug substances, however, good vascularisation and high permeability of the large surface of vaginal mucosa, as well as the circumvention of metabolic ...

Assessment of Risk Factors of Septic Complications of the Puerperium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Postpartum purulent-septic complications (PPSC) and their problems are most urgent for modern obstetrics due to their significant frequency. Maternal sepsis is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality around the world, accounting for about one ...

The Nuclear Localization of ACLY Guards Early Embryo Development Through Recruiting P300 and HAT1 to Promote Histone Acetylation and Transcription

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ACLY is vital for early embryo development. IGF‐1 activates AKT to phosphorylate ACLY, driving its nuclear localization and recruitment of HATs (P300/HAT1), boosting acetyl‐CoA production and histone acetylation for transcriptional activation. Conversely, ACLY deficiency (via knockdown, knockout, or AKT inhibition) reduces nuclear acetyl‐CoA, disrupts ...

Quadrivalent vaccine against human papillomavirus to prevent anogenital diseases.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2007
BACKGROUND A phase 3 trial was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of a prophylactic quadrivalent vaccine in preventing anogenital diseases associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6, 11, 16, and 18.

Quantitative Bacteriology of the Vaginal Flora in Genital Disease [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 1984
Samples from the posterior vaginal fornix of 102 women with various clinical conditions were analysed by a quantitative method. Aerobes were isolated from all but one of the specimens at a mean concentration of 7.2 log10 cfu/g and anaerobes from 92 specimens at a mean concentration of 8.1 log10 cfu/g.

Comprehensive Characterization of Bihormonal Cells and Endocrine Cell Lineages in Mammalian Pancreatic Islets

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study integrates dual‐reporter genetics, imaging flow cytometry, and single‐cell sequencing to characterize rare bihormonal cells in mouse and human pancreatic islets. Gcg⁺Ins⁺ cells resemble α‐cells rather than transitional states. Cross‐species gene network analysis refines islet cell taxonomy and reveals human‐specific δ‐cell subtypes ...
