Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Therapeutic Opportunities in the Vaginal Microbiome

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2017
ABSTRACT The reproductive tract of females lies at the core of humanity. The immensely complex process that leads to successful reproduction is miraculous yet invariably successful. Microorganisms have always been a cause for concern for their ability to infect this region, yet it is other, nonpathogenic microbial

Translating the vaginal microbiome: gaps and challenges [PDF]

open access: yesGenome Medicine, 2016
Management, manipulation, and restoration of a robust vaginal microbiota has the potential to vastly improve women's health and disease prevention. However, a systems level understanding of how the vaginal microbiota is associated with gynecologic and reproductive health is still needed to develop effective interventional strategies.
