An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Unsupervised clustering of LA-ICP-MS raster map data for geological interpretation: A case study using epidote from the Yerington district, Nevada

open access: yesApplied Computing and Geosciences, 2020
Raster element concentration maps created using laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) can be used to interpret microscale compositional and textural domains within mineral grains.

Value chains of cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill.) in a centre of diversity and its on-farm implications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper uses value chain analysis as a novel method to examine the conservation status of and strategies for cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill.), an underutilized, perennial fruit species native to the Andean valleys of Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Value chain governance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This document reports on the discussions during the dinner event held in November 2008. We believe that these discussions and the conversations with the co-applicants set clear directions for next phases of this project.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Domestic Value Chains as Stepping Stones to Global Value Chain Integration

open access: yesWorld Economics, 2019
Identifying the determinants of global value chain (GVC) integration is essential to understand the past expansion and current slowdown in GVCs. In this paper, we study the role of domestic value chains (DVCs) for GVC integration.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Should Recovery Strategies Be Reuse or Recycling Based? A Case Study on Discarded Electronics in Melbourne, Australia

open access: yesLogistics
Background: Optimizing reverse chains is more difficult than forward linear supply chains. Careful consideration should be given to recovery strategies to optimize product reuse as well as recycling.

Formfactors and functional form of correlators in the XX spin chain

open access: yes, 2003
We present the new expressions for the formfactors of local operators for the XX - quantum spin chain as a Cauchy determinants. Using the known functional form of the correlator at large distances we propose the new expression for the constant for the ...
