Investigating the Prevalence of the Vancomycin Resistance Gene in Staphylococcus aureus Isolated from Clinical Specimens in Medical Centers in Mazandaran [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences
Background and purpose: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most important causative agents of infections. The excessive use of antibiotics has led to a rise in antibiotic-resistant strains, including vancomycin-resistant isolates.

Engineered surface strategies to manage dental implant‐related infections

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract When exposed to the oral environment, dental implants, like natural surfaces, become substrates for microbial adhesion and accumulation, often leading to implant‐related infections—one of the main causes of implant failure. These failures impose significant costs on patients, clinicians, and healthcare systems.

No Increased Risk of Infection Following a Protocol Change to Decrease Duration of Perioperative Antibiotic Prophylaxis in Liver Transplantation

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
There was no increased rate of surgical site infection or bacteremia in liver transplant recipients following a decrease in perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis duration, with a change from 2.4% to 2.8% in patients hospitalized prior to transplant and 7.5% to 2.9% in other patients.

Impact of Doxycycline Prophylaxis on Reducing Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma‐Related Complications in Lung Transplant Recipients

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
Doxycycline prophylaxis in lung transplant recipients was associated with reduced hyperammonemia syndrome and shorter ventilation, ICU, and hospital stays. These findings suggest that doxycycline prophylaxis may help prevent Ureaplasma/Mycoplasma‐related morbidity.

Challenges of Dengue in Hematological Disease Patients: Descriptive Analysis From the DANGO Registry During the 2023–2024 Outbreak in Argentina

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
During the 2023–2024 Argentine dengue outbreak, 33 patients with hematological disease showed high complication rates, frequent hospitalization (64%), severe thrombocytopenia (90%), and 6% dengue‐attributable mortality. Transfusion‐associated cases were documented.
