A Comparative Case Study of EMG-Driven Controllers in Transtibial Prostheses

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering
Lower limb amputation greatly affects quality of life by restricting functional mobility. Despite advancements in prosthetic design, powered transtibial prostheses still have limitations in user control and adaptability to dynamic environments.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Analysis and mitigation of circulating currents for grid-forming DERs during parallel black-start in islanded systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
Following a large-scale power outage, grid-forming (GFM) distributed energy resources (DERs) can facilitate rapid system recovery using parallel black start technology. However, the DER parallel-operation systems (DERPS) may generate circulating currents

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Torque and workspace analysis for flexible tendon driven mechanisms

open access: yes, 2010
Tendon driven mechanisms have been considered in robotic design for several decades. They provide lightweight end effectors with high dynamics. Using remote actuators it is possible to free more space for mechanics or electronics.

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...
