Variable neighborhood search for the Vertex Separation Problem

open access: yesComputers & Operations Research, 2012
The vertex separation problem belongs to a family of optimization problems in which the objective is to nd the best separator of vertices or edges in a generic graph. This optimization problem is strongly related to other well-known graph problems; such as the Path-Width, the Node Search Number or the Interval Thickness, among others ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

A two-phase variable neighborhood search for solving nonlinear optimal control problems [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Numerical Analysis and Optimization, 2015
In this paper, a two-phase algorithm, namely IVNS, is proposed for solving nonlinear optimal control problems. In each phase of the algorithm, we use a variable neighborhood search (VNS), which performs a uniform distribution in the shaking step and the ...

Greedy Optimization Method for Extractive Summarization of Scientific Articles

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
This work presents a method for summarizing scientific articles from the arXive and PubMed datasets using a greedy Extractive Summarization algorithm. We used the approach along with Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) to learn what is the top-line exists

Variable Neighborhood Search for Edge-Ratio Network Clustering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
International audienceEdge-ratio clustering was introduced in [Cafieri et al., Phys.Rev. E 81(2):026105, 2010], as a criterion for optimal graph bipartitioning in hierarchical divisive algorithms for cluster identification in networks.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A Hybrid Genetic Algorithm and Parallel Variable Neighborhood Search for Jobshop Scheduling With an Assembly Stage [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Industrial Engineering and Production Research, 2019
In this research a jobshop scheduling problem with an assembly stage is studied. The objective function is to find a schedule which minimizes completion time for all products. At first, a linear model is introduced to express the problem.

MPI Parallelization of Variable Neighborhood Search

open access: yesElectronic Notes in Discrete Mathematics, 2012
Abstract We analyze five parallelization strategies for the Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) meta–heuristic. They are based on the asynchronous cooperative execution of several threads on different processors. Some of them are adapted from the recent literature, while the others are the newly proposed. We test parallelization on various levels, and

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

PLANEJAMENTO DA EXPANSÃO DE SISTEMAS DE TRANSMISSÃO DE ENERGIA ELÉTRICA COM BUSCA EM VIZINHANÇA VARIÁVEL

open access: yesColloquium Exactarum, 2010
The static long-term power transmission network expansion planning problem consists in, given an initial configuration and the generation data and demand of the planning horizon, operation limits, costs and investment restrictions, to determine the ...
