Multiple Locus VNTR (Variable Number of Tandem Repeat) Analysis

2006
The present chapter will review the current state of the art in the field of bacterial strain typing through the use of tandem repeat polymorphism. We will first go through a brief overview of multiple locus VNTR analysis (MLVA) typing and then describe how to set-up or enrich a MLVA assay.

Variable number tandem repeats in dopamine receptor D4 in Tourette's syndrome

Movement Disorders, 2014
AbstractBackgroundWe attempted to clarify the association between dopamine receptor D4 (DRD4) 48‐bp variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) polymorphism and Tourette's syndrome.MethodsThe DRD4 48‐bp VNTR polymorphism was genotyped in 291 Tourette's syndrome patients (including 218 trios) and 405 controls.

Multiplex variable number of tandem repeats for Oenococcus oeni and applications

Food Microbiology, 2014
Oenococcus oeni is responsible for the malolactic fermentation of wine. Genomic diversity has already been established in this species. In addition, winemakers usually report varying starter-culture efficiency. It is essential to monitor indigenous and selected strains in order to understand strain survival and development during the winemaking process.

Automatically predicting possible loci of variable number of tandem repeats

Proceedings. Fourth IEEE Symposium on Bioinformatics and Bioengineering, 2004
Variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) stands for a tandem repeat which has variation in length and the number of repeated segments between individuals. VNTRs are useful as molecule markers in many applications, such as DNA fingerprinting, genetic disease analysis and molecular typing of prokaryotes.

[Assessment of the application of variable-number tandem repeat loci of Salmonella Enteritidis in subtyping multiple-locus variable-number tandem repeat analysis].

Zhonghua yu fang yi xue za zhi [Chinese journal of preventive medicine], 2012
To evaluate the feasibility of the application of variable-number tandem repeat (VNTR) loci of Salmonella Enteritidis (S. enteritidis) in subtyping mutiple-locus variable-number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA).A total of 16 isolates of S.enteritidis from different place and time in China were preliminarily assessed by choosing 11 reported VNTR loci, the ...

Practical Informatics Approaches to Microsatellite and Variable Number Tandem Repeat Analysis

2010
The second most common source of genetic variation after SNPs is polymorphic tandem repeats, the alleles of which consist of a variable number of repeated units that can be either small (e.g., CA) or large (to >100 nucleotides in length). There are perhaps over half a million of these in the human genome.
