Variable structure systems with sliding modes
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1977Variable structure systems consist of a set of continuous subsystems together with suitable switching logic. Advantageous properties result from changing structures according to this switching logic. Design and analysis for this class of systems are surveyed in this paper.

Totally invariant variable structure control systems
Proceedings of the IECON'97 23rd International Conference on Industrial Electronics, Control, and Instrumentation (Cat. No.97CH36066), 2002This paper identifies a sliding mode for every linear state feedback control system. Based on this finding, a new control method is proposed. The method combines the convenience of any known linear state feedback design and the robustness of the variable structure control (VSC).

Sliding sector for variable structure system
2007This paper presents VS controllers with sliding sector. The sliding sector is designed so that some norm of the state is decreasing inside it without any control action. VS control law ensures the norm decreases in the state space and thus yields a quadratic stable VS control system. The discrete-time system described by transfer function is also taken

Variable-structure coherent systems†
International Journal of General Systems, 2005The notion of coherent systems plays an essential role in conventional reliability theory. A system is said to be coherent if all of its components are relevant and the system reliability is improved as the component reliabilities are improved. However, in many complex systems or networks, not all the components are unconditionally relevant.

Optimization of linear variable-structure systems
USSR Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Physics, 1981Abstract AN ITERATIVE algorithm is described and proved for finding an optimal control that satisfies the conditions of Pontryagin's maximum principle. The main advantages of the algorithm from the practical stand-point are: universality in the class of variable-structure system, stability of the computational process, monotonic convergence to the ...

Chaos in discrete variable structure systems
[1992] Proceedings of the 31st IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2005A chaotic system is a nonlinear deterministic dynamical system whose behavior is erratic and irregular and therefore sensitive to small changes in initial conditions. The discretization chaos in the variable structure control of linear systems is investigated using Lyapunov exponents.
