A System-Level Approach to Controller Synthesis [PDF]
Biological and advanced cyberphysical control systems often have limited, sparse, uncertain, and distributed communication and computing in addition to sensing and actuation. Fortunately, the corresponding plants and performance requirements are also sparse and structured, and this must be exploited to make constrained controller design feasible and ...

Analysis and Synthesis of Reset Control Systems [PDF]
This survey monograph overviews a large core of research results produced by the authors in the past decade about reset controllers for linear and nonlinear plants. The corresponding feedback laws generalize classical dynamic controllers because of the interplay of mixed continuous/discrete dynamics.

Synthesis of communicating controllers for distributed systems [PDF]
We consider the control of distributed systems composed of subsystems communicating asynchronously; the aim is to build local controllers that restrict the behavior of a distributed system in order to satisfy a global state avoidance property. We model our distributed systems as communicating finite state machines with reliable unbounded FIFO queues ...

Permissive Controller Synthesis for Probabilistic Systems [PDF]
We propose novel controller synthesis techniques for probabilistic systems modelled using stochastic two-player games: one player acts as a controller, the second represents its environment, and probability is used to capture uncertainty arising due to, for example, unreliable sensors or faulty system components.

Synthesis of a nonlinear control system
The investigated nonlinear control system consists of a linear member with an ensemble of possible discrete combinations of proportional and derivative feedback around the linear member. The particular combination of proportional and derivative feedback employed at any instant is determined by a feedback switching circuit which is in turn operated by ...

Optimal controller synthesis for timed systems
Weighted timed games are zero-sum games played by two players on a timed automaton equipped with weights, where one player wants to minimise the cumulative weight while reaching a target. Used in a reactive synthesis perspective, this quantitative extension of timed games allows one to measure the quality of controllers in real-time systems.

Parallel synthesis of robust control systems [PDF]
Parallel computing is used to evaluate compensator robustness numerically and to automate the design of control systems. Robustness is quantified by Monte Carlo evaluation of the effects of plant-parameter uncertainty, and it is maximized by searching the control-design-parameter space with a genetic algorithm.

Evolutionary Synthesis and Control of Chaotic Systems [PDF]
Abstract This research deals with the synthesis and control of chaos by means of evolutionary algorithms. The main aim of this work is to show that evolutionary algorithms are capable of synthesis of new chaotic system and optimization of its control and to show a new approach of solving this problem and constructing new cost functions operating in ...

Secure-by-Construction Synthesis for Control Systems
In this paper, we present the synthesis of secure-by-construction controllers that address safety and security properties simultaneously in cyber-physical systems. Our focus is on studying a specific security property called opacity, which characterizes the system's ability to maintain plausible deniability of its secret behavior in the presence of an ...
