Floral expression and pollen germination ability in productive mountain papaya (Vasconcellea pubescens A.DC.) orchards [PDF]

open access: yesChilean Journal of Agricultural Research, 2016
Mountain papaya (Vasconcellea pubescens A.DC.) is described as trioecious in the centers of origin of Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru. However, under cultivation conditions in La Serena (30° S, 70° W), Chile, it is found to be dioecious and monoecious. The objective was to learn about the variations in floral expression of mountain papaya.

Expression of an ethylene-related expansin gene during softening of mountain papaya fruit (Vasconcellea pubescens)

Postharvest Biology and Technology, 2009
Fruit softening is associated with cell wall modifications produced by a set of hydrolytic enzymes and proteins. Expansins are proteins with no catalytic activity which have been associated with several processes during plant growth and development. A role for expansins has been proposed during fruit softening, and many fruit-specific expansins have ...

Antipyretic properties of carica (Vasconcellea pubescens A.DC.) fruit and seeds ethanolic extract in experimental animals

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2019
Abstract Fever is the condition of body temperature which more than usual caused by an increase of central control temperature in the hypothalamus. An infection or virus usually cause this condition. Some of the active substances of plant secondary metabolites had been researched lower fever; they were flavonoids, saponins, and tannins ...

Comparative study of dehydrated papaya (Vasconcellea pubescens) by different drying methods: quality attributes and effects on cells viability

Journal of Food Measurement and Characterization, 2021
The effect of different drying methods on sugar content and amino acid content, color and non-enzymatic browning of Chilean papaya (Vasconcellea pubescens) slices was investigated. The obtained fruit extracts were tested in cell viability assays on human endothelial ECV-304 cells.

SEX EFFECT ON THE TELOMER LENGTH, ELEMENTAL COMPOSITION, AND PHYTOCHEMICAL CONTENT OF HIGHLAND PAPAYA (VASCONCELLEA PUBESCENS A.DC.) LEAVES

SABRAO Journal of Breeding and Genetics, 2023
Highland papaya (Vasconcellea pubescens A.DC.) is a monoecious and dioecious plant with female and male organs. In Indonesia, three sexes of highland papaya exist with different telomere lengths, which protect chromosomes and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) from damage.

Chemical and bioactive characterization of papaya (Vasconcellea pubescens) under different drying technologies: evaluation of antioxidant and antidiabetic potential

Journal of Food Measurement and Characterization, 2019
Chilean papaya slices were dried using different technologies to evaluate the effect of the different technologies on drying kinetics, bioactive compounds and biological activities. Five techniques were used: freeze drying (FD), vacuum drying (VD), solar drying (SD), convective drying (CD) and infrared drying (IRD).
