Npp1 promotes atherosclerosis in ApoE knockout mice. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Ecto-nucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase 1 (NPP1) generates inorganic pyrophosphate (PP(i)), a physiologic inhibitor of hydroxyapatite deposition.

Mechanically and Chemically Defined PEG Hydrogels Improve Reproducibility in Human Cardioid Development

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Synthetic matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)‐degradable polyethylene glycol (PEG)‐based hydrogels are developed to investigate the influence of mechanical and biochemical cues on cardioid development. Matrix stiffness and cell adhesion motifs significantly regulate cardioid formation, chamber morphogenesis, contractile function, and cardioid transcriptome.

Rutin ameliorates the promotion effect of fine particulate matter on vascular calcification in calcifying vascular cells and ApoE-/- mice

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2022
Atmospheric PM2.5 exposure greatly contributes to the incidence of and mortality from cardiovascular disease (CVD). Owing to the crucial role of vascular calcification in the progression of CVD, it is imperative to elucidate the effects of PM2.5 on ...

Phenotyping calcification in vascular tissues using artificial intelligence [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Vascular calcification is implicated as an important factor in major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), including heart attack and stroke. A controversy remains over how to integrate the diverse forms of vascular calcification into clinical risk assessment tools.

Automated Analysis of Femoral Artery Calcification Using Machine Learning Techniques [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
We report an object tracking algorithm that combines geometrical constraints, thresholding, and motion detection for tracking of the descending aorta and the network of major arteries that branch from the aorta including the iliac and femoral arteries.

An In Situ Curing, Shear‐Responsive Biomaterial Designed for Durable Embolization of Microvasculature

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
NeoCast is a next‐generation, solvent‐free, non‐adhesive liquid embolic designed for indications where deep occlusion is desired (e.g., tumors and chronic subdural hematoma). This novel agent offers ideal embolic properties: injectability, controllability, excellent visibility, and biocompatibility.

Vascular phyllotaxis transition and an evolutionary mechanism of phyllotaxis [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports 5, 15358 (2015), 2012
Leaves of vascular plants are arranged regularly around stems, a phenomenon known as phyllotaxis. A constant angle between two successive leaves is called divergence angle. On the one side, the divergence angle $\alpha_0$ of an initial pattern of leaf primordia at a shoot apex is most commonly an irrational number of about 137.5 degrees, called limit ...

Engineering Assembloids to Mimic Graft‐Host Skeletal Muscle Interaction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a graft‐host skeletal muscle assembloid model combining neuromuscular organoids with tissue‐engineered constructs. Pre‐seeding decellularized muscles with myogenic cells enhances cell migration and axon invasion from the organoid. The model exhibits regenerative capacity following acute damage, advancing the understanding of human ...
