Pathologic evaluation of tumor-associated macrophage density and vessel inflammation in invasive breast carcinomas [PDF]
Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are major constituents of the tumor microenvironment in solid tumors and have been implicated as mediators of tumor progression, invasion and metastasis.

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Adhesion of Monocytes to Vascular Cell Adhesion Molecule-1–Transduced Human Endothelial Cells [PDF]
Abstract —To study the role of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) in monocyte recruitment and atherogenesis, we constructed a recombinant adenovirus, AdRSVrVCAM-1, carrying the rabbit VCAM-1 cDNA. We have previously shown that AdRSVrVCAM-1–transduced human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) support the adhesion ...

Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Examining the role of insulin in the regulation of cardiovascular health [PDF]
A substantial body of evidence has reported that insulin has direct actions on the cardiovascular system independent of its systemic effects on plasma glucose or lipids.

Association Between Vascular Cell Adhesion Molecule 1 and Atrial Fibrillation
Accumulating evidence links inflammation and atrial fibrillation (AF).To assess whether markers of systemic and atrial inflammation are associated with incident AF in the general population. The Bruneck Study is a prospective, population-based cohort study with a 20-year follow-up (n = 909).

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Regulation of CD4(+) T cells by pleural mesothelial cells via adhesion molecule-dependent mechanisms in tuberculous pleurisy. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) have been demonstrated to be expressed on pleural mesothelial cells (PMCs), and to mediate leukocyte adhesion and migration; however, little is known ...

Melanoma-associated adhesion molecule MUC18/MCAM (CD146) and transcriptional regulator Mader in normal human CNS [PDF]
The proteins MUC18 and Mader have been identified as markers of tumor progression in melanoma cells, MUC18, also known as MCAM (melanoma cell adhesion molecule) and as CD146 (endothelial antigen), is a cell adhesion molecule belonging to the ...

Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated
