HDAC9 is implicated in atherosclerotic aortic calcification and affects vascular smooth muscle cell phenotype. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Aortic calcification is an important independent predictor of future cardiovascular events. We performed a genome-wide association meta-analysis to determine SNPs associated with the extent of abdominal aortic calcification (n = 9,417) or descending ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

It Takes Two: Endothelial-Perivascular Cell Cross-Talk in Vascular Development and Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2018
The formation of new blood vessels is a crucial step in the development of any new tissue both during embryogenesis and in vitro models as without sufficient perfusion the tissue will be unable to grow beyond the size where nutrition and oxygenation can ...

Micro-RNA-1 is decreased by hypoxia and contributes to the development of pulmonary vascular remodeling via regulation of sphingosine kinase 1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Sphingosine kinase 1 (SphK1) upregulation is associated with pathologic pulmonary vascular remodeling in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), but the mechanisms controlling its expression are undefined.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Characterization of an acyl-coenzyme A binding protein predominantly expressed in human primitive progenitor cells*s⃞

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2008
Human acyl-coenzyme A binding domain-containing member 6 (ACBD6) is a modular protein that carries an acyl-CoA binding domain at its N terminus and two ankyrin motifs at its C terminus.

Perinatal vascular development [PDF]

open access: yesCardiovascular Research, 2001
See article by Boels et al. [3] (pages 140–150) in this issue. During transition to the extrauterine environment, the newborn infant must accomplish complex cardiorespiratory adjustments. Dramatic changes in pulmonary and systemic vascular resistance must occur within minutes, followed by more gradual changes over the succeeding days.

Vascular instruction of pancreas development

open access: yesDevelopment, 2012
Blood vessels course through organs, providing them with essential nutrient and gaseous exchange. However, the vasculature has also been shown to provide non-nutritional signals that play key roles in the control of organ growth, morphogenesis and homeostasis.

c-Src inhibition improves cardiovascular function but not remodeling or fibrosis in Ang II-induced hypertension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
c-Src plays an important role in angiotensin II (Ang II) signaling. Whether this member of the Src family kinases is involved in the development of Ang II–induced hypertension and associated cardiovascular damage in vivo remains unknown. Here, we studied
