Association between the retinal vascular network with Singapore "I" Vessel Assessment (SIVA) software, cardiovascular history and risk factors in the elderly: The Montrachet study, population-based study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
PurposeTo identify patterns summarizing the retinal vascular network in the elderly and to investigate the relationship of these vascular patterns with cardiovascular history.MethodsWe conducted a population-based study, the Montrachet study (Maculopathy

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Vascular anomalies of the head and neck in children. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Sixty percent of vascular anomalies in children are found in the head and neck. These lesions can present throughout antenatal, perinatal and childhood development. They broadly fall into two categories: vascular tumours and vascular malformations. Their

Finite element and mechanobiological modelling of vascular devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
There are two main surgical treatments for vascular diseases, (i) percutaneous stent deployment and (ii) replacement of an atherosclerotic artery with a vascular graft or tissue engineered blood vessel.

Multicenter prospective study on the histological diagnosis of gastric cancer by narrow band imaging-magnified endoscopy with and without acetic acid

open access: yesEndoscopy International Open, 2019
Background and study aims The usefulness of endoscopy for diagnosing histological type remains unclear. This study aimed to examine the diagnostic accuracy of white light endoscopy (WLE), magnified endoscopy with narrow band imaging (NBI-ME), and NBI-ME ...

Epigenetic reprogramming of lineage switching in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cancer cells rarely commit to a single identity. Epigenetic mechanisms and tumor microenvironment cues push epithelial cells toward flexible, hybrid states that can shift into mesenchymal, neuroendocrine, or stem‐like fates, driving metastasis, drug resistance, and tumor heterogeneity. Targeting the epigenetic regulators behind these transitions, using

Intraluminal application of vascular endothelial growth factor enhances healing of microvascular anastomosis in a rat model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Background: Early reconstitution after injury to the endothelium is an important feature for reducing a number of vessel wall pathologies. We investigated the effect of vascular endothelial growth factor ( VEGF) and its impact on the vascular remodeling ...

The microbiome in human skin aging

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐related skin changes encompass the well‐known visible phenotypic alterations, together with microbiome dysbiosis and a series of molecular aging hallmarks. These hallmarks characterize not only a fully stablished aged phenotype but also the skin aging process itself.

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Vascular network segmentation: an unsupervised approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Micro-tomography produces high resolution images of biological structures such as vascular networks. In this paper, we present a new approach for segmenting vascular network into pathological and normal regions from considering their micro-vessel 3D ...
