Kinins induce abnormal vascular reactivity

open access: yes, 1988
Previous studies have shown that after experimental neural trauma or acute hypertension the brain produces superoxide anion radicals, and brain arterioles display endothelial lesions, dilation, and loss of normal reactivity in response to a decrease in ...

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Coronary Artery Calcium Progression: A Case Cohort Analysis From ELSA‐Brasil

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective To investigate the association between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and coronary artery calcium (CAC) prevalence, incidence, and progression over four years in adults without prior cardiovascular disease. Methods A case‐cohort study within the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA‐Brasil) included 585 participants (86 patients with ...

Increment of body mass index is positively correlated with worsening of endothelium-dependent and independent changes in forearm blood flow

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2015
Obesity is associated with the impairment of endothelial function leading to the initiation of the atherosclerotic process. We have hypothesized that an increasing impairment of endothelial and vascular smooth muscle cell functions occurs from lean ...

Immunosuppressive Drug Use in Limited Systemic Sclerosis: An International Survey

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Current guidelines recommend immunosuppressive treatment for diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis but are less clear on their use in limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc) in the absence of internal organ complications. We conducted an international survey to understand current immunosuppressive drug prescribing patterns in lcSSc ...

Detrimental Effects of Testosterone Addition to Estrogen Therapy Involve Cytochrome P-450-Induced 20-HETE Synthesis in Aorta of Ovariectomized Spontaneously Hypertensive Rat (SHR), a Model of Postmenopausal Hypertension

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Postmenopausal period has been associated to different symptoms such as hot flashes, vulvovaginal atrophy, hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) and others.

Real‐World Safety and Effectiveness of JAK Inhibitors in Systemic Sclerosis: A Propensity‐Matched Study from the EUSTAR Cohort

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective JAK inhibitors (JAKis) have shown promising effects in early‐phase studies of SSc. We aimed to assess the safety and explore effectiveness of JAKis compared to conventional immunosuppressants in SSc. Methods A longitudinal retrospective study of the EUSTAR cohort was performed.

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Alterations in the vascular reactivity of aorta in the early and late phase of adjuvant-induced arthritis in rat

open access: yes, 2007
This study aims to investigate the alterations in the vascular reactivity of isolated aorta obtained in the early and late phase of adjuvant-induced arthritic rats and to determine the involvement of nitric oxide and prostaglandins in the pathogenesis of

IN4MER Biomaterial Ink: A Phosphorescent Biosensing Biomaterial Ink for Multiple Analytes (Glucose, Lactate, Oxygen) Measurements and Temperature Sensing Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multianalyte, real‐time monitoring of bioprinted scaffolds remains challenging. Phosphorescence‐lifetime–based, optically responsive microparticles are embedded in diverse printable hydrogels (κ‐carrageenan, GelMA, PEGDA) to form biomaterial inks that report oxygen, glucose, lactate, and temperature.
