Recurrent Hypothermia and Autonomic Dysfunction Secondary to Shapiro Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man presented with recurrent hypothermia, diaphoresis and hypertension. Extensive investigation for infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and endocrine aetiologies was negative. MR scan of the brain demonstrated no lesions but revealed callosal dysgenesis, consistent with Shapiro syndrome.

Exercise training improves vascular reactivity in ovariectomized rats subjected to myocardial infarction.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of exercise training (ET) on the aortic vascular reactivity of ovariectomized and infarcted rats. The animals were divided into 5 groups: Control, Ovariectomized + SHAM sedentary (OVX+SHAMSED), OVX+SHAM ...

Clinical Significance of Acute and Serial Platelet Function Testing in Acute Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2018
BackgroundWe sought to investigate the clinical implications of platelet reactivity to aspirin and the variability in the platelet reactivity to aspirin during acute periods for the risk of vascular events in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

The effect of expressing anger on cardiovascular reactivity and facial blood flow in Chinese and Caucasians

open access: yes, 2001
Blood pressure, heart rate, and changes in facial and finger blood flow were monitored in 24 male Chinese and 24 male Caucasians while they described anger-provoking incidents and read out neutral material, either loudly and rapidly or softly and slowly.

Impact of Plasma p‐tau181 on Cognition, Motor Phenotypes, and Disease Course in ALS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Phosphorylated tau181 (p‐tau181), an Alzheimer's disease biomarker, was recently evaluated in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). We investigated plasma p‐tau181 in 202 ALS/ALS‐FTD patients and 94 healthy controls, assessing cognitive performance, motor function, and longitudinal dynamics.

Oxidative Stress and NLRP3 Inflammasome as Markers of Cardiac Injury Following Cardiopulmonary Bypass: Potential Implications for Patients with Preoperative Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction

open access: yesAntioxidants
Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) can lead to cardiac damage due to oxidative stress (OS) and inflammation in heart failure (HF). We tested the hypothesis that preoperative HF patients with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) subjected to CBP have higher levels

Growth hormone replacement therapy in adults with growth hormone deficiency improves vascular reactivity

open access: yes, 1999
Patients with adult growth hormone (GH) deficiency are thought to be of increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Impaired vascular reactivity to endothelium derived nitric oxid (NO) is an early event in the development of atherosclerosis.

Early Recognition of Treatment‐Responsive Rapidly Progressive Dementia: The Modified STAM3mP Score

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Early identification of patients with treatment‐responsive rapidly progressive dementia (RPD) is important as early treatment improves outcomes. The STAM3P score identifies treatment‐responsive RPD using “high risk” presenting features. We optimized performance by adding a time component (i.e., dementia within 3 months) and validated the ...

The influence of carotid disease on cerebral vascular autoregulation and cerebral vascular reactivity to hypercapnia [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Cerebral vascular reactivity to hypercapnia, assessed using transcranial Doppler ultrasonography of middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity, is used to assess the extent of cerebral blood flow reserve.
