Predictors of Maternal Vitamin D Deficiency and Associated Adverse Neonatal Outcomes in Eastern Uganda: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Vitamin D deficiency in pregnancy has been linked to adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes, but evidence from Uganda is limited. We estimated the prevalence of maternal vitamin D deficiency at delivery, identified associated factors, and assessed immediate neonatal outcomes.

Conditional Vitamin D Receptor Deletion Induces Fungal and Archaeal Dysbiosis and Altered Metabolites

open access: yesMetabolites
A vitamin D receptor (VDR) deficiency leads to the dysbiosis of intestinal bacteria and is associated with various diseases, including cancer, infections, and inflammatory bowel disease.

The Role of Vitamin D in Severity and Control of Asthma in Children and Adolescents: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesPediatric Pulmonology, Volume 61, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Context Vitamin D may modulate the inflammatory processes involved in asthma. Objective To synthesize evidence on the association between serum 25‐hydroxyvitamin D levels and asthma control, severity, pulmonary function, and inflammatory markers in children and adolescents. Role of Antimicrobial Peptides in the Pathogenesis of Atopic Dermatitis

open access: yesThe Journal of Dermatology, Volume 53, Issue 3, Page 372-379, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by barrier dysfunction, immune dysregulation, and microbial dysbiosis. Recent studies have highlighted the multifaceted roles of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) both as innate defenders against microbial invasion and as regulators of immune responses and skin barrier ...

Treg cells retain stable lineage commitment during pregnancy in mice after late gestation inflammatory challenge

open access: yesImmunology &Cell Biology, Volume 104, Issue 3, Page 276-311, March 2026.
In this study, we used Foxp3‐fatemapping mice to examine the cell lineage stability of Treg cells in pregnancy. Ex‐Foxp3 cells were identified in gestational tissues. However, Treg cells retained lineage stability with no increased ex‐Foxp3 generation, regardless of inflammatory challenges that induce preterm birth.

Coactivator-independent vitamin D receptor signaling causes severe rickets in mice, that is not prevented by a diet high in calcium, phosphate, and lactose

open access: yesBone Research
The vitamin D receptor (VDR) plays a critical role in the regulation of mineral and bone homeostasis. Upon binding of 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 to the VDR, the activation function 2 (AF2) domain repositions and recruits coactivators for the assembly of ...

The exposomal imprint on rosacea: More than skin deep

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, Volume 40, Issue 3, Page 387-403, March 2026.
Rosacea reflects systemic and environmental interactions, not just a skin disorder. Key factors include environmental triggers, genetic and microbiome influences, diagnostic gaps in skin of colour and social determinants. Advances in multi‐omics and exposome integration highlight pathways towards precision medicine, prevention and equitable, patient ...

A Nonrandomized Clinical Trial Investigating Keratinocyte Growth Factor‐Hair Serum for the Prevention of Chemotherapy‐Induced Alopecia

open access: yesJournal of Cosmetic Dermatology, Volume 25, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Chemotherapy‐induced alopecia (CIA) is known to have a significant psychological and quality of life impact. Although cold caps have been shown to prevent CIA, expense and extension of treatment durations are barriers for routine clinical use.

Hyperandrogenemia impairs endometrial vitamin D receptor expression in polycystic ovary syndrome

open access: yesGynecological Endocrinology
Objectives To determine the effects of hyperandrogenemia and other phenotypic parameters on endometrial vitamin D receptor (VDR-X2 and VDR-X4) expression in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) undergoing ovarian stimulation and total embryo ...
