Molecular biology on a microfluidic chip [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We have developed microfluidic chips for automating molecular biology processes such as gene ligation and gene transformation from nanolitre sample volumes with parallel architecture. Unlike conventional tube methods with cumbersome pipetting procedures,

Brucella NyxA and NyxB dimerization enhances effector function during infection

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Brucella abortus thrives inside cells thanks to the translocation of effector proteins that fine‐tune cellular functions. NyxA and NyxB are two effectors that destabilize the nucleolar localization of their host target, SENP3. We show that the Nyx proteins directly interact with each other and that their dimerization is essential for their function ...

Solving Maximum Clique Problem for Protein Structure Similarity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A basic assumption of molecular biology is that proteins sharing close three-dimensional (3D) structures are likely to share a common function and in most cases derive from a same ancestor.

The carboxylate “gripper” of the substrate is critical for C‐4 stereo‐inversion by UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction

Leishmania sand fly-transmission is disrupted by Delftia tsuruhatensis TC1 bacteria

open access: yesNature Communications
Most human pathogenic Leishmania species are zoonotic agents; therefore, sand fly-based control strategies are essential to prevent parasite circulation.

The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Advanced RNA synthesis as a key tool in RNA biology research [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Stem Cell Research & Therapy, 2015
Background. The aim of the study was to assess the histological effects of autologous infusion of adipose‐derived stem cells (ADSC) on a chronic vocal fold scar in a rabbit model as compared to an untreated scar as well as in injection of hyaluronic acid. Study Design. Animal experiment. Method. We used 74 New Zealand rabbits. Sixteen of them were used

In vivo genetic manipulation of inner ear connexin expression by bovine adeno-Associated viral vectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We have previously shown that in vitro transduction with bovine adeno-associated viral (BAAV) vectors restores connexin expression and rescues gap junction coupling in cochlear organotypic cultures from connexin-deficient mice that are models DFNB1 ...

Transcriptomic analysis of resistance and short-term induction response to pyrethroids, in Anopheles coluzzii legs

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2021
Background Insecticide-treated bed nets and indoor residual spraying comprise the major control measures against Anopheles gambiae sl, the dominant vector in sub-Saharan Africa. The primary site of contact with insecticide is through the mosquitoes’ legs,

svcR: An R Package for Support Vector Clustering improved with Geometric Hashing applied to Lexical Pattern Discovery [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We present a new R package which takes a numerical matrix format as data input, and computes clusters using a support vector clustering method (SVC). We have implemented an original 2D-grid labeling approach to speed up cluster extraction. In this sense, SVC can be seen as an efficient cluster extraction if clusters are separable in a 2-D map. Secondly
