Production of germ-free mosquitoes via transient colonisation allows stage-specific investigation of host–microbiota interactions

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Germ-free mosquitoes generated with current methods exhibit developmental deficits. Here, the authors use genetically modified bacteria to allow complete decolonisation at any developmental stage of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and show that bacteria support

Clinical use of lentiviral vectors

open access: yesLeukemia, 2018
Viral vectors provide an efficient means for modification of eukaryotic cells, and their use is now commonplace in academic laboratories and industry for both research and clinical gene therapy applications.

The first detected airline introductions of yellow fever mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti) to Europe, at Schiphol International airport, the Netherlands

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2017
Background Air-borne introduction of exotic mosquitoes to Schiphol airport in the Netherlands has been considered plausible based upon findings of mosquitoes in aircraft cabins during 2008, 2010 and 2011.

Frequency of pyrethroid resistance in human head louse treatment: systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesParasite, 2021
Head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis) are one of the most common insects causing infestations in humans worldwide, and infestation is associated with adverse socio-economic and public health effects. The development of genetic insensitivity (e.g., target

Vector and axial vector mesons at finite temperature [PDF]

open access: yesEur.Phys.J.C25:445-452,2002, 2002
We consider the thermal correlation functions of vector and axial-vector currents and evaluate corrections to the vector and axial-vector meson pole terms to one loop in chiral perturbation theory. As expected, the pole positions do not shift to leading order in temperature. But the residues decrease with temperature.

Difference between irregular chaotic patterns of second-order double-loop ΣΔ modulators and second-order interpolative bandpass ΣΔ modulators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper, we find that, by computing the difference between two consecutive state vectors of second-order double-loop sigma-delta modulators (SDMs) and plotting one component of the subtracted vectors against the other component, irregular chaotic ...

The global distribution of the arbovirus vectors Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus

open access: yeseLife, 2015
Dengue and chikungunya are increasing global public health concerns due to their rapid geographical spread and increasing disease burden. Knowledge of the contemporary distribution of their shared vectors, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus remains ...

Infestation of chigger mites on Chinese mole shrew, Anourosorex squamipes, in Southwest China and ecological analysis

open access: yesParasite, 2022
The Chinese mole shrew, Anourosorex squamipes Milne-Edwards, 1872, is a common species of insectivorous mammal in Southwest China. Based on field investigations between 2001 and 2019, the present study reports the infestation of chiggers (larvae of ...

Non-singular Cooperative Guiding Vector Field Under a Homotopy Equivalence Transformation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The present article advances the concept of a non-singular cooperative guiding vector field under a homotopy equivalence transformation. Firstly, the derivation of a guiding vector field, based on a non-singular vector field, is elaborated to navigate a transformed path from another frame. The existence of such vector fields is also deliberated herein.

Computing covariant vectors, Lyapunov vectors, Oseledets vectors, and dichotomy projectors: a comparative numerical study

open access: yes, 2012
Covariant vectors, Lyapunov vectors, or Oseledets vectors are increasingly being used for a variety of model analyses in areas such as partial differential equations, nonautonomous differentiable dynamical systems, and random dynamical systems.
