The conscious promotion of health by an appropriate, balanced diet has become an important social request. Vegetable thereby possesses a special importance due to its high vitamin, mineral and dietary fibre content. Major progress has been made over the past few years in the transformation of vegetables.

Vegetation and Moonlight [PDF]
THE letter of your Trinidad correspondent, given in NATURE, vol. xxxvi. p. 586, referring to a Committee appointed to determine moon influence, has a practical interest for me. Among the wood-cutters in Cape Colony, both east and west, there is a fixed belief, which no arguments can turn, that to cut timber at, or shortly after, full moon, is to cut it

Phytophthora capsici effector PcRD18 targets tomato GSNOR to disrupt NO homeostasis, promoting S‐nitrosylation of immune proteins like RBOHD. This suppresses ROS bursts and promotes pathogen infection. Mutation of the PcRD18‐binding sites of GSNOR avoids pathogen manipulation and offers a strategy to enhance crop resistance. Abstract Nitric oxide (NO),

Alterations in leaf adaxial–abaxial (ad-ab) polarity are one of the main factors that are responsible for leaf curvature. In Chinese cabbage, to form a leafy head, leaf incurvature is an essential prerequisite.

Co‐Selection of Low Cadmium Accumulation and High Yield During Tomato Improvement
This study finds that large‐fruited tomatoes accumulate less cadmium (Cd) compared to wild tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. This is because, during the improvement process of tomato, the low‐Cd allele LCT1A and the large fruit allele fw3.2T are closely linked, leading to a co‐selection event.

GmSop20 Functions as a Key Coordinator of the Oil‐To‐Protein Ratio in Soybean Seeds
This study investigates the seed oil‐to‐protein ratio as a comprehensive quality metric and identifies GmSop20 as a crucial regulatory gene through forward genetics methodologies. By integrating GmSop20 with superior haplotypes and using gene editing/overexpression, new strategies are provided for precisely tuning the seed oil‐to‐protein ratio, thereby

Florigen and Florigen‐Like Genes Regulate Temperature‐Responsive Flowering in Tomato
This study uncovers that FLOWERING LOCUS T‐Like 2 (FTL2) and SINGLE‐FLOWER TRUSS (SFT) antagonistically regulate temperature‐responsive flowering in the tomato shoot apical meristem. High temperature induces floral repressor FTL2, which directly inhibits SFT to delay short‐day floral transition, while SFT reciprocally inhibits FTL2 to promote flowering.
