ROS‐Responsive Nanoparticle Delivery of Dexmedetomidine Protects the Gut Vascular Barrier After Intestinal Ischemia/Reperfusion via the HDAC‐H3K27ac‐TCF4 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A low dose of dexmedetomidine, delivered by ROS‐responsive nanoparticles, preferentially accumulates in the ischemic intestine and restores gut vascular barrier integrity after ischemia/reperfusion injury. This nanoparticle‐based strategy prevents bacterial translocation and liver damage without cardiorespiratory side effects, working through HDAC ...

Developing Highly Effective Nanoparticle mRNA Therapeutic for Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sepsis‑induced pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome suppresses FOXF1 in lung endothelial cells which causes life‐threatening lung damage. To counter this, researchers developed nanoparticles that specifically target these cells and deliver FOXF1 mRNA.

Understanding ventilator-induced lung injury: The role of mechanical power.

open access: yesJournal of critical care
Mechanical ventilation stands as a life-saving intervention in the management of respiratory failure. However, it carries the risk of ventilator-induced lung injury.

EGF RECEPTOR REGULATES MECHANICAL VENTILATION INDUCED LUNG INJURY IN MICE

open access: yesTranslational research : the journal of laboratory and clinical medicine, 2008
SUMMARY Mechanical ventilation (MV) is used as therapy to support critically ill patients, however the mechanisms by which MV induces lung injury and inflammation remain unclear.

SDPR–STK38 axis controls the proliferation–differentiation balance in alveolar type II cells

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
The present study identifies SDPR as a pivotal regulator orchestrating the balance between proliferation and differentiation in alveolar type II (AT2) cells. In SDPR+/+ cells, SDPR binds to and inhibits STK38 activity, thereby sustaining GSK‐3β signaling functionality to promote cyclin D1 degradation and maintain cell cycle homeostasis.

Early changes in rat diaphragm biology with mechanical ventilation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
To better characterize the effects of 24-hour mechanical ventilation on diaphragm, the expression of myogenic transcription factors, myosin heavy chains, and sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum calcium-ATPase pumps was examined in rats.

Successful Use of Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist in Managing Refractory Bilateral Pneumatoceles in a Premature Neonate

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Perinatology Reports
Background Pneumatoceles are air-filled cystic lesions within the lung parenchyma, often arising from severe pneumonia or mechanical ventilation-induced lung injury, which pose significant risk, particularly in neonates requiring high ...

High tidal volume mechanical ventilation-induced lung injury in rats is greater after acid instillation than after sepsis-induced acute lung injury, but does not increase systemic inflammation: an experimental study

open access: yesBMC Anesthesiology, 2011
BackgroundTo examine whether acute lung injury from direct and indirect origins differ in susceptibility to ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) and resultant systemic inflammatory responses.MethodsRats were challenged by acid instillation or 24 h of ...

Genome‐wide network analysis identifies the lncRNA‐92467/miR‐205‐5p/PTPRM/CAMs axis in a rat model of hypoxic pulmonary hypertension

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
The pathogenesis of hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH) remains unclear. In this study, we explored its key regulatory mechanisms using animal models, RNA sequencing, and cellular assays. We found that lncRNA‐92467 functions as a ceRNA, binding miR‐205‐5p, and thereby upregulating PTPRM, inhibiting abnormal proliferation and migration of endothelial ...

Bilateral phrenic nerve block to reduce hazardous respiratory drive in a mechanically ventilated patient with COVID‐19—A case report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports
Key Clinical Message Forced inspiration during mechanical ventilation risks self‐inflicted lung injury. However, controlling it with sedation or paralysis may cause polyneuropathy and myopathy.
