There are no targeted pharmacologic therapies to treat lung injury during mechanical ventilation (MV). Here the authors identify a mechanosensitive microRNA (miR-146a) in alveolar macrophages during MV and increase miR-146a to supraphysiological levels ...

The membrane‐active peptide Pep19‐2.5 reduces harmful inflammation by blocking activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome at trans‐Golgi network membranes. By targeting key membrane interactions, Pep19‐2.5 suppresses inflammatory IL‐1β production and alleviates allergic airway inflammation in mice, leading to reduced immune cell infiltration and improved ...

Genetic targets of hydrogen sulfide in ventilator-induced lung injury--a microarray study. [PDF]
Recently, we have shown that inhalation of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) protects against ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI). In the present study, we aimed to determine the underlying molecular mechanisms of H2S-dependent lung protection by analyzing gene ...

This study unveils a novel antibacterial mechanism against MRSA, in which the compound Py‐27 selectively targets and inhibits aspartate transcarbamoylase (ATCase), a key enzyme in pyrimidine synthesis. This inhibition disrupts DNA replication, induces oxidative damage, leading to potent bactericidal activity.

An evaluation of the relative efficacy of an open airway, an oxygen reservoir and continuous positive airway pressure 5 cmH2O on the non-ventilated lung [PDF]
Publisher's copy made available with the permission of the publisher © Australian Society of AnaesthetistsThe aim of this study, during one-lung ventilation, was to evaluate if oxygenation could be improved by use of a simple oxygen reservoir or ...

High glucose is linked to reduced succinate dehydrogenase activity in CD14+ monocytes, accompanied by succinate accumulation and extracellular release. Extracellular succinate exacerbates mitochondrial ROS production and mtDNA release in CD4+ T cells. Cytosolic mtDNA then activates Z‐DNA binding protein 1 (ZBP1) and engages ZBP1‐associated inflammatory

Early biomarkers and potential mediators of ventilation-induced lung injury in very preterm lambs
BackgroundBronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is closely associated with ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) in very preterm infants. The greatest risk of VILI may be in the immediate period after birth, when the lungs are surfactant deficient, still ...

Background Ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) is a recognized complication of mechanical ventilation. Although the specific mechanism by which mechanical ventilation causes lung injury remains an active area of study, the application of positive end ...
