Correction of a designed building's heat balance according to its real heat consumption

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2003
One of the most important issues in the implementation of energy saving measures is a proper evaluation of possible energy savings. If energy savings are overestimated in an energy audit (EA), a situation may occur where after the renovation, the ...

2D MOF with Intrinsic Porosity for Colorimetric Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An uncommon 2D MOF with intrinsic in‐plane porosity that can be mechanically exfoliated undergoes a distinct and reversible colour change upon exposure to various volatile organic compounds. ABSTRACT In this work, we report an uncommon 2D metal–organic framework (MOF) with intrinsic in‐plane porosity that undergoes a distinct and reversible colour ...

Liquid Ventilation

open access: yesOman Medical Journal, 2011
Mammals have lungs to breathe air and they have no gills to breath liquids. When the surface tension at the air-liquid interface of the lung increases, as in acute lung injury, scientists started to think about filling the lung with fluid instead of air to reduce the surface tension and facilitate ventilation.

A sustainable analysis of a detached house heating system throughout its life cycle. A case study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Strategic Property Management, 2007
Approximately 40% of final energy is consumed in buildings both in Lithuania and the European Union. In cold climate countries major part of the consumed energy is heat.

Accuracy of B-natriuretic peptide for the diagnosis of decompensated heart failure in muscular dystrophies patients with chronic respiratory failure

open access: yesNeurology International, 2018
Heart failure and restrictive respiratory insufficiency are complications in muscular dystrophies. We aimed to assess the accuracy of the B-natriuretic peptide (BNP) for the diagnosis of decompensated heart failure in muscular dystrophy.

Treatment with Plasma Activated (Salt) Water Sterilizes Macromolecular Coatings While Maintaining Their Integrity and Functionality

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
PDMS samples were covalently coated with mucin glycoproteins and then treated with either plasma activated water (PAW) or saline (PAS) as a means of disinfection. The samples could be successfully sterilized without compromising the structural integrity or functionality of those coatings.

Fluctuating Curvature and Actuation in 4D Printed Asymmetric Networks by Frontal Photopolymerization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Asymmetric polymer networks, fabricated by frontal photopolymerization (FPP), are shown to exhibit curvature oscillations associated with monomer‐solvent exchanges during development and drying. We introduce a theoretical model for such dynamic curvature fluctuations and demonstrate the fabrication of bistable switches and self‐propelled materials that
