The Verdet constant of undoped Y3AL5O12 in the near infrared
Optics Communications, 2012Abstract The optical activity of an undoped Y3Al5O12 (YAG) crystal is measured in the near infrared at a fixed temperature. The crystal is located inside the bore of a hollow cylindrical magnet of uniform magnetization. By integrating the applied magnetic field along the cylindrical axis of the crystal, the Verdet constant is determined for ...

Measurements of the Birefringence and Verdet Constant in an Air-Core Fiber
Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2009In order to determine the Verdet constant of an air-core photonic bandgap fiber (PBF), the birefringence of the fiber needs to be accurately known. We used two methods to measure the linear and circular birefringence of a commercial PBF around 1.5 mum. The linear birefringence beat length is found to vary significantly with wavelength, ranging from 6.8

An analysis of the Verdet constant
Molecular Physics, 1990The relation between the Verdet constant V and the ‘normal’ Verdet constant V N is explored for diatomic molecules. It is found to depend upon both the mean Πu and Σ+ u excitation energies as well as upon the frequency dependence of the isotropic and anisotropic dipole polarizabilities.

Coupled cluster calculations of Verdet constants
Chemical Physics Letters, 1997Abstract We present the results of calculations of the Verdet constants for H 2 , N 2 , C 2 H 2 and CH 4 , within a recently implemented quadratic response function approach, for the hierarchy of coupled cluster models CCS, CC2 and CCSD. For hydrogen, our FCI results are compared with experiment and with previous calculations of “benchmark” quality.

MCSCF calculations of Verdet constants
Chemical Physics Letters, 1994Quadratic response function theory for self-consistent field and multiconfiguration self-consistent field wavefunctions have been used to calculate the Verdet constants for the nitrogen and acetylene molecules. The correlation contribution is oppositely directed in these two molecules and is important in obtaining close agreement with experimental ...

Temperature dependence of the Verdet constant in several diamagnetic glasses
Applied Optics, 1991Measured temperature dependences of the Verdet constants of SiO(2), SF-57, and BK-7 are approximately 10(-4)/K within 3-20% of Becquerel formula estimates.

The refractive indices and Verdet constants of the inert gases
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1960Abstract A method is suggested by which the refractive index and Verdet constant of an atomic system may be derived theoretically. It is applied to atomic hydrogen and to the inert gases and a comparison is made with experimental data. The Verdet constant of neon is not anomalous.

Index of Refraction and Verdet Constant of Atomic Helium
Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1970The index of refraction and Verdet constant of atomic helium are calculated with the Pade approximant method from the first two oscillator strengths and the numerical values of α+(ν) which are connected with the dynamic polarizability α(ν) through the relation α(ν) = α+(ν) + α+(−ν).

Verdet constant and its dispersion in optical glasses
SPIE Proceedings, 1991The Verdet constant of the Faraday rotation has been determined experimentally as a function of wavelength for optical glasses at 20 degree(s)C in the visible spectral range. Data have been analyzed for 40 different optical glasses. Very large values of the Verdet constant have been measured for the heavy flint glasses such as SF 59, SF 58, SF 57, and ...

The Verdet Constant of Heavy Water
Physical Review, 1934The Verdet constants of samples of water containing 0, 31.1, and 99.7 percents of heavy hydrogen atoms have been measured for the wave-lengths $\ensuremath{\lambda}5893$ and $\ensuremath{\lambda}5460.7\mathrm{A}$ at 20\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}C. The results are given in tabular form. From these data the Verdet constant of pure heavy water (${\
