The Neuroprotective Effect of a Waste Byproduct Obtained From Pomegranate (Punica granatum)
The Effect of a Waste Byproduct Obtained From Pomegranate on Neurodegeneration. ABSTRACT Pomegranate is an exceptional fruit that can have several beneficial effects on human health. The peel of pomegranate, a waste product, should be recovered as it still contains valuable constituents, including phenolic compounds, minerals and fibre. The recovery of

We performed 16S rDNA sequencing and metabolite profiling for three sympatric lizard species—Teratoscincus roborowskii, Phrynocephalus axillaris, and Eremias roborowskii—and compared their goblet cell and enzyme activities in the digestive tract. Our study suggests that the dietary niche may promote divergence or convergence of microbiota across host ...

Candidatus Methylacidiphilum fumariolicum SolV is a verrucomicrobial methanotroph that can grow in extremely acidic environments at high temperature. Strain SolV fixes carbon dioxide (CO2) via the Calvin-Benson-Bassham cycle with methane as energy source,

ABSTRACT Gut microbiota may contribute to the adiposity‐associated disease risk, but human studies reported inconsistent associations of adiposity with gut microbiota composition. We examined associations of body mass index (BMI) with alpha diversity and relative microbial abundance at the phylum and genus taxonomic levels (based on 16S rRNA amplicon ...

Vancomycin Protects Against Lung Injury and Promotes Butyrate Metabolism
Transplanting the fecal microbiota of patients with lung injury into mice causes an increase in LPS in the mice's blood, thereby leading to chronic lung injury in the mice. Meanwhile, oral administration of vancomycin can enhance colonic butyrate metabolism and improve lung injury in mice.

SummaryNorthern lakes are ice-covered for a large part of the year, yet our understanding of microbial diversity and activity during winter lags behind that of the ice-free period.

Wildlife may facilitate the spread of antibiotic resistance (AR) between human-dominated habitats and the surrounding environment. Here, we use functional metagenomics to survey the diversity and genomic context of AR genes in gulls. Using this approach,

This review highlights recent advances in understanding how plant protection programs and alternative fungicides affect the taxonomic composition of the grapevine phyllosphere microbiota. Bacterial and fungal communities are primarily shaped by the plant compartment, vineyard location, and sampling time. Plant protection programs generally have a minor

Recently, several characters that are absent from most bacteria, but which are found in many eukaryotes or archaea, have been identified within the bacterial Planctomycetes-Verrucomicrobia-Chlamydiae (PVC) superphylum.

TRF enriches Ruminococcus, a bacterial genus producing SCFAs, and activates the epithelial HIF‐1α signaling pathway. This mechanism protects the colonic mucosa from inflammatory insults in colitis models. Mechanistically, gut lactate production during starvation and refeeding mediates H4K12la, which increases SLC9A3 expression and creates an acidic gut
