Very low density lipoprotein metabolism in domestic pigs
Atherosclerosis, 1980Patterns of triacylglycerol (TG) turnover in plasma and liver, and the hepatic secretion of very density lipoprotein triacylglycerol (VLDL TG) into the circulation, have been studied in young Large White female pigs, using i.v. tracer [1,3-14C]- and [2-3H]glycerol.

Very low high-density lipoproteins without coronary atherosclerosis
The Lancet, 1993Epidemiological studies have established that concentrations of plasma high-density lipoproteins (HDL) are inversely associated with premature atherosclerosis, but the physiological basis of this relationship remains unknown. We investigated 5 probands with very low plasma HDL.

Background: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a psychiatric condition and is defined as mood swings that alternate between mania, hypomania, and depression. Studies have been conducted globally to assess lipid profile (High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), and Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLDL)) for BD with varying results.

Abstract The catabolism of human very-low-density lipoproteins was studied by following the metabolic fate of the “minipeptides” of human very-low-density lipoproteins after the infusion of the intact human lipoprotein into squirrel monkeys (Saimira sciureus). The antigenic differences between human and monkey proteins made it possible to assay human

We have reported that obese leptin-deficient mice (ob/ob) lacking the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR(-/-)) develop severe hyperlipidemia and spontaneous atherosclerosis. In the present study, we show that obese leptin receptor-deficient mice (db/db) lacking LDLR have a similar phenotype, even in the presence of elevated plasma leptin levels. We

Comparative proteomic profiling of plasma very-low-density and low-density lipoproteins
Clinica Chimica Acta, 2010Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is a natural metabolite of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) in the circulation. Systematic investigation of total protein components and dynamics might provide insights into this normal metabolic process.VLDL and LDL were purified from normolipidemia pooled plasma by gradient ultracentrifugation with either ionic or non-

Prednisone increases very low density lipoprotein and high density lipoprotein in healthy men
Metabolism, 1988To determine the effect of corticosteroids on lipoprotein metabolism in healthy subjects, we measured lipoprotein lipid and apoprotein levels in eight normolipidemic healthy men before, during, and after administration of oral prednisone 0.35 mg/kg/d.

Kinetics of triglyceride rich lipoproteins: chylomicrons and very low density lipoproteins
Atherosclerosis, 1998Lipoprotein dynamics are complex during the postprandial state. A significant rise in chylomicron concentration is associated with increased competition for LPL with VLDL particles. This results in an increased concentration of large VLDL. The concentration of small VLDL is reduced as a result of diminished conversion of large to small VLDL.

Very-Low-Density Lipoprotein in Search of Precision
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1979Some words are inherently vague. Take "very," for instance. "The use of `very' as an expression of quantity or measurement does not increase precision," writes Roland in "Very, Very Imprecise." 1 Yet, ironically, imprecise as it is, "very" found its way into scientific terminology. It insinuated itself into the classification of lipoproteins. "Very low-

Very low density lipoprotein metabolism in diabetes mellitus
Diabetes/Metabolism Reviews, 1987The concentration of VLDL and their major lipid, triglyceride, are regulated at many levels from the initial availability of the substrates needed for their synthesis all the way to the function of the enzymes and receptors involved in their removal from plasma.
