Correlation between vessel features and hardwood drying properties; case study: beech (Fagus orientalis) and oak (Quercus castaneifolia) [PDF]

open access: yesتحقیقات علوم چوب و کاغذ ایران, 2018
In this research, the effects of vessel features, including vessel diameter, density and porosity on drying rate and casehardening of beech (Fagus Orientalis) and oak (Quercus castaneifolia) was investigated.

Continuous Retinal Vessel Diameter Measurements: The Future in Retinal Vessel Assessment? [PDF]

open access: yesInvestigative Opthalmology & Visual Science, 2010
To establish an alternative method, sequential and diameter response analysis (SDRA), to determine dynamic retinal vessel responses and their time course in serial stimulation compared with the established method of averaged diameter responses and standard static assessment.SDRA focuses on individual time and diameter responses, taking into account the

Normative data of retinal arteriolar and venular calibre measurements determined using confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy system – Importance and implications for study of cardiometabolic disorders

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2022
Purpose: To determine and validate retinal vascular caliber measurements by using the confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy system. Retinal vasculature changes are often regarded as clinical markers for systemic disease.

Vessel Diameter Measurement from Intravital Microscopy [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Biomedical Engineering, 2009
The blood vessel diameter is often measured in microcirculation studies to quantify the effects of various stimuli. Intravital video microscopy is used to measure the change in vessel diameter by first recording the video and analyzing it using electronic calipers or by using image shearing technique.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

High‐Resolution MRI Revealed Different Etiology‐Specific Associations With Cerebral Infarction in Adult Moyamoya Vasculopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective High‐resolution MRI enables detailed assessment of intracranial vessel wall pathology in moyamoya vasculopathy. We aimed to classify adult moyamoya vasculopathy etiologies using high‐resolution MRI and to examine subtype‐specific associations between high‐resolution MRI features and ischemic infarction.

Transcriptome-based WGCNA reveals the molecular regulation of xylem plasticity in acclimation to drought and rewatering in mulberry

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Xylem plasticity is important for trees to coordinate hydraulic efficiency and safety under changing soil water availability. However, the physiological and transcriptional regulations of cambium on xylem plasticity are not well understood. In this study,

Analysis of anatomical and functional traits of xylem in Humulus lupulus L. stems

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2011
Hop plants have unusually low values of the ratio between internal area of xylem conducts and leaf area, indicating that their xylem conducts solutes very efficiently. In the present study we analyzed the structure and function of xylem in stems of field-
