Haemolysin produced by Vibrio cholerae non-O1 is not enterotoxic [PDF]
Of 28 isolates of Vibrio cholerae non-O1 (10 from diarrhoeal patients and 18 from environmental sources) examined for haemolytic activity and its correlation, if any, with enterotoxic activity, 24 showed haemolysis. The four non-haemolytic isolates showed haemolysis after consecutive passages through rabbit ileal loops (RILs).

The presence of Vibrio cholerae non-O1 in water supplies for human consumption in the city of Campeche and rural locality of Bécal was investigated. V. cholerae non-O1 was detected in 5.9% of the samples obtained in deep pools of Campeche.
