The biosynthesis of cytokinins in crown-gall tissue of Vinca rosea

Planta, 1979
The crown-gall tissue of Vinca rosea converts labelled adenine into cytokinins. The principal initial products appear to be ribosylzeatin phosphates; zeatin and ribosylzeatin are also produced in appreciable quantities. The efficiency of conversion of adenine into cytokinins suggests a pathway of synthesis independent of turnover of tRNA.

The insensitivity of Vinca rosea to vinblastine

Chromosoma, 1977
Root tip mitosis in both Vinca rosea and the chosen control Lepidium sativum is susceptible to the effects of colchicine at and above 5X10(-4)M.--Root tip mitosis in L. sativum is susceptible to the effects of vinblastine at concentrations equal to and greater than 10(-4)M, while root tip mitosis in V.

In vitro synthesis of spermidine in the higher plant, Vinca rosea

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1973
Cell-free extracts of Vinca rosea seedlings exhibited enzyme activities for the following reactions: S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) decarboxylation, spermidine synthesis from decarboxylated SAM and putrescine, and 5′-methylthioadenosine hydrolysis to 5-S-methyl-5-thio-D-ribose and adenine.

New Derivatives of the Vinca Rosea Alkaloids

Acta geneticae medicae et gemellologiae, 1968
Summary1. Vinblastine (VLB) and vincristine (VCR) are both naturally occurring alkaloids derived from the flowering periwinkle plant, Vinca rosea, Linn.2. Both drugs have large molecules and are very similar in chemical structure. They differ only in that VLB has a methyl group (-CH3) while VCR has a formyl group (-CHO) attached to one of the nitrogen ...
