Ecological Assembly Processes Are Coordinated between Bacterial and Viral Communities in Fractured Shale Ecosystems

open access: yesmSystems, 2020
The ecological drivers that concurrently act upon both a virus and its host and that drive community assembly are poorly understood despite known interactions between viral populations and their microbial hosts. Hydraulically fractured shale environments

Metagenomic screening of the sugarcane virome in Florida. [P.36] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Viral metagenomics has revolutionized the way pathologists decipher viral diseases. While the impact of this new approach is still debatable in plant virus diagnostics, viral metagenomics has already produced key advances in viral ecology and has the ...

MERS-CoV in Arabian camels in Africa and Central Asia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) causing infections in humans is genetically indistinguishable from the virus found in Arabian camels (dromedaries) in the Middle East. Although no primary human case of MERS was reported outside the

Intercellular Horizontal Transfer of TXNDC5 mRNA via Extracellular Vesicles Contributes to Tumor‐Associated Macrophage‐Mediated Prostate Cancer Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates the role of M2 macrophage‐derived extracellular vesicles (M2 EVs) in prostate cancer (PCa) metastasis. Mechanistically, M2 EVs horizontally transfer TXNDC5 mRNA to PCa cells, where the molecule induces the mesenchymal‐like state (MLS), enhancing PCa migration and invasion.

Aquatic viral ecology

open access: yes, 2021
Marine and freshwater viruses, from polar regions to tropical systems, are a huge reservoir of genetic diversity and are key players in regulating host population dynamics and subsequently carbon cycling in the microbial food web. This session will explore the ecology of aquatic viruses, ranging from their diversity to their role as agents of microbial

Precision Editing of NLRS Improves Effector Recognition for Enhanced Disease Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Precision engineering of plant NLR immune receptors enables rational design of enhanced pathogen resistance through mismatched pairing, domain swapping, and targeted mutagenesis. These approaches achieve multi‐fold expansion in recognition breadth while minimizing autoimmunity risks and fitness penalties.

The Hologenome of Haliclona fulva (Porifera, Demospongiae) Reveals an Abundant and Diverse Viral Community

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
Viruses are among the most abundant biological entities in the ocean, largely responsible of modulating nutrients fluxes and influencing microbial composition and functioning.
