Paramyxovirus membrane fusion: Lessons from the F and HN atomic structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Paramyxoviruses enter cells by fusion of their lipid envelope with the target cell plasma membrane. Fusion of the viral membrane with the plasma membrane allows entry of the viral genome into the cytoplasm.

Influence of salt and viral protein charge distribution on encapsidation of single-stranded viral RNA molecules [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
We examine the limits on viral composition that are set by the electrostatic interactions effected by the charge on the viral proteins, the single-stranded viral RNA molecule and monovalent salt ions in the solution. Within the mean-field model of viral energetics we demonstrate the prime importance of the salt concentration for the assembly of a virus.

Systematic Approach on Differences in Avian Viral Proteins Based on Carbon Composition [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
The distribution of amino acid along the protein sequences plays an imperative role in facilitating different biological functions. Currently, there is insufficient scientific data, which represents the arrangement of amino acid in the proteins based on atomic composition.

Viral Hybrid Vectors for Somatic Integration - Are They the Better Solution? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The turbulent history of clinical trials in viral gene therapy has taught us important lessons about vector design and safety issues. Much effort was spent on analyzing genotoxicity after somatic integration of therapeutic DNA into the host genome. Based

Viral entry mechanisms: the role of molecular simulation in unlocking a key step in viral infections

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio
Viral infections are a major global health concern, affecting millions of people each year. Viral entry is one of the crucial stages in the infection process, but its details remain elusive.

Stochastic model of endosomal escape of Influenza virus [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Influenza viruses enter a cell via endocytosis after binding to the surface. During the endosomal journey, acidification triggers a conformational change of the virus spike protein hemagglutinin (HA) that results in escape of the viral genome from the endosome to the cytoplasm.

Mitochondrial dynamics and viral infections: A close nexus. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Viruses manipulate cellular machinery and functions to subvert intracellular environment conducive for viral proliferation. They strategically alter functions of the multitasking mitochondria to influence energy production, metabolism, survival, and ...

Assembly and budding of influenza virus. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Influenza viruses are causative agents of an acute febrile respiratory disease called influenza (commonly known as "flu") and belong to the Orthomyxoviridae family.

Passaging of a Newcastle disease virus pigeon variant in chickens results in selection of viruses with mutations in the polymerase complex enhancing virus replication and virulence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Some Newcastle disease virus (NDV) variants isolated from pigeons (pigeon paramyxovirus type 1; PPMV-1) do not show their full virulence potential for domestic chickens but may become virulent upon spread in these animals.
