Socioeconomic determinants of suboptimal adherence to ART and elevated HIV viral load in twelve Sub-Saharan African countries: evidence from population HIV impact assessment survey data

open access: yesDiscover Public Health
Background This study identifies factors influencing viral load suppression among HIV-positive individuals in twelve sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries.

Reduction in time to viral suppression among persons living with HIV in Jamaica between 2017-2019.

open access: yesPLOS Global Public Health
IntroductionHIV viral suppression is important for effective treatment and for reducing new infections. In 2019, only 66% of persons on antiretroviral treatment (ART) in Jamaica were virally suppressed.

HIV dynamics and natural history studies: Joint modeling with doubly interval-censored event time and infrequent longitudinal data

open access: yes, 2011
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) coinfection has become one of the most challenging clinical situations to manage in HIV-infected patients. Recently the effect of HCV coinfection on HIV dynamics following initiation of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART)

Tracking TCRß sequence clonotype expansions during antiviral therapy using high-throughput sequencing of the hypervariable region [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
To maintain a persistent infection viruses such as hepatitis C virus (HCV) employ a range of mechanisms that subvert protective T cell responses. The suppression of antigen-specific T cell responses by HCV hinders efforts to profile T cell responses ...

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Accuracy of Provider Predictions of Viral Suppression Among Adolescents and Young Adults With HIV in an HIV Clinical Program

open access: yesJournal of the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care
Background Providers caring for adolescents and young adults with HIV (AYA-HIV) mostly base their adherence counseling during clinical encounters on clinical judgment and expectations of patients’ medication adherence.

Effectiveness of a community-based intervention (Konga model) to address factors contributing to low viral load suppression among children living with HIV in Tanzania: a preliminary, cluster, randomized clinical trial report

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2023
Background Despite effective antiretroviral therapy (ART) coverage in other groups living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in Tanzania, virologic suppression among HIV-positive children receiving ART remains unacceptably low.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Life Chaos is Associated with Reduced HIV Testing, Engagement in Care, and ART Adherence Among Cisgender Men and Transgender Women upon Entry into Jail. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Life chaos, the perceived inability to plan for and anticipate the future, may be a barrier to the HIV care continuum for people living with HIV who experience incarceration. Between December 2012 and June 2015, we interviewed 356 adult cisgender men and
