Rolling-circle replication of viroids, viroid-like satellite RNAs and hepatitis delta virus: variations on a theme [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Viroids and viroid-like satellite RNAs from plants, and the human hepatitis delta virus (HDV) RNA share some properties that include small size, circularity and replication through a rolling-circle mechanism.

Commodity risk assessment of Castanea sativa plants from the United Kingdom

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as ‘High risk plants, plant products and other objects’. This Scientific Opinion covers plant health risks posed by graftwood, whips, bare root plants and potted ...

Vertical and Horizontal Transmission of Pospiviroids

open access: yesViruses, 2018
Viroids are highly structured, single-stranded, non-protein-coding circular RNA pathogens. Some viroids are vertically transmitted through both viroid-infected ovule and pollen.

Rice Root Aphids, Rhopalosiphum rufiabdominale, Preferentially Choose and Multiply Faster on Monocotyledonous Plants

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 173, Issue 11, Page 1205-1215, November 2025.
Rice root aphids (RRAs) feed on a range of monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants. In choice experiments with two potted plants, RRAs invariably selected and multiplied faster on monocotyledonous rye than on dicotyledonous cannabis, celery, coriander, lettuce, pepper, squash, tomato, or marigold.

Viroids: sequence variability and evolution of pathogenic RNA

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 2002
Viroids as the smallest pathogenic circular single-stranded pathogenic RNAs form populations of quasi-species, whichhas been recently identified by thermodynamic methods like TGGE pre-selection and heteroduplex analysis.

Unveiling the Role of circRNAs in Pyroptotic Signalling: From Molecular Crosstalk to Disease Modulation

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 29, Issue 22, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Pyroptosis is a gasdermins‐dependent programmed cell death (PCD) characterised by progressive cellular swelling and plasma membrane rupture (PMR). This process releases intracellular contents that amplify inflammatory cascades and immune activation, involving the pathogenesis of various disorders such as tumours, heart and vascular diseases ...

Development of a Quantitative Real-time Nucleic Acid Sequence based Amplification (NASBA) Assay for Early Detection of Apple scar skin viroid

open access: yesThe Plant Pathology Journal, 2019
An assay for detecting Apple scar skin viroid (ASSVd) was developed based on nucleic acid sequence based amplification (NASBA) in combination with real-time detection during the amplification process using molecular beacon. The ASSVd specific primers for
